Hard Rock Crushed

12/7/07

We’re running a bit late on these this week, but wow what a blast last Thursday as the Hard Rock was “Crushed” by our very own local hard rock favorites 60 Second Crush! Located in the Heart of Downtown Detroit in the Campus Martius district, The Hard Rock Café-Detroit has started hosting what they call Hard Rock Local Music Thursdays, quite an interesting setting, as local music invades this normally “mild” mannered music themed restaurant. We here at Dr2 always love to point the “Bus” south in the direction of Detroit, and having the Hard Rock Café hosting local bands gives us a great reason to do just that. Last Thursday we headed on downtown to catch a set by 60 Second Crush, who we have not had a chance to see since way back at “Da Club 54” days! Now that’s a name we don’t hear to often any more after a great run at rock & roll “bardom” that failed miserably. But, we hear they are under new management over there and actually have some “real” Rock & Roll (and fabulous punk) schedule up there this Saturday where you can catch Publik Parking, Convergance Theory, Choking Susan, and Lithium all in what is billed as a “Huge” Birthday Bash for a number of people in and close to these bands. We have also learned that they are actually bringing in a “Real” Sound System (something that has been lacking at quite a few clubs of late) & Sound Guy! Just may be something worth checking out this weekend. Heading in to Detroit this time of year is always a treat, with all the crazy lights and that humongous Christmas Tree all lit up right outside the Hard Rock really gives you that Holidaze feel! Pulling up near the front door of the Hard Rock was pretty simple as we parked the bus and headed on into the Café, only to be pleasantly surprised to find that they have actually pulled down the seating and railing of that “raised” level to make up their “new” stage as opposed to having the bands play in the Atrium that we have all been so used to seeing. The coolest thing about this “Rock Club” is the fact that they have that awesome food and ice cold beer, mix in some great “live” music, and Dr2 is in heaven for a Thursday night! Grabbing a seat we noticed that 60 Second Crush were being interviewed by Detroit Dungeons which is a local Detroit Cable TV show, but even more surprising was the “interviewer”, none other than one “Dana Deadly”, who also happens to be the bassist in 60 Second Crush! This girl is amazing as she not only plays bass for Crush, But also for Vinnie Dombrowski’s Crud, & now she’s doing TV, where does she find the time? After a few more questions and a few more cold beers, Crush hit the stage opening with the fast paced Control that got everyone taking notice. Pumping it up with Suckerpunch the Crushers had the Hard Rock’s PA bouncing off the ceiling! Pretty good sounding PA I might add, maybe need the subs down on floor, but other than that it, it “Suckerpunched” itself! These guys have really come around with their stage show as Tommy T (vox) takes command of the stage delivering his vocals like a raging bull! With the addition of Dave Hicks’ (lead guitar) screaming leads to compliment Peder’s crushing rhythm, 60 Second Crush had the Hard Rock at it’s mercy with their mysterious Murder In Ohio. Ripping through this 9 song set drawn entirely from their latest effort, “Street Corner Of Fear", you could’t help but stand up, raise your fist and pump it high in the air as the formidable rhythm section of Dana Deadly (bass) and the infamous Schimdog (drums) will literally rip your face off as they laid down a thunderous back beat to drive home the Crushers’ songs right through you brain! Getting the Hard Rock crowd up on their feet and to the front of the stage with Sister Suicide, 60 Second Crush then delivered one of our favorite “bombastic” Crush jams, Street Corner Of Fear, before ending the set with Weekend Junkie. What an awesome set from 60 Second Crush tonight that certainly will have Dr2 checking out the Hard Rock again for this “Hard Rock Local Music Thursdays”, and you should too! To check out all the pics from this night, head on over to our “MySpace” page. Be sure to check out 60 Second Crush out on their MySpace page which you can find in our “Top Friends” or find one of their shows near you over on our “Dr2 GiG Calendar”! Stay tuned to Detroit Rock Review as we will soon be releasing our “Dr2 View” on “Street Corner Of Fear”, and as always, remember to purchase 60 Second Crush’s “Street Corner Of Fear” head on over to CdBaby to order one up!

60 Second Crush Rocks!

"Downtown The World" Detonates TnT’s!

Downtown The World Detonates TnT’s!

Saturday night not only brought us winter’s first storm, but also marked Critical Bill’s return “home” from a 3 month tour that crisscrossed the United States where they finally “blew” back home into TnT’s and literally detonated the place. With the snow falling, Dr2 loaded up the bus and headed on over to TnT’s to catch this “End Of Tour” party that included some of the area’s “Hottest Bands” - 2 Days Out, Facture, Hatch, Zug Izland, & of course the stars of the night, Mt Clemens’ own Critical Bill. “Sliding” into the parking lot, (literally and nearly getting squashed by a not to be named member of one of the bands-LOL) Dr2 unloaded the Dr2 Crew at the door and proceeded to find a parking spot, not an easy task on this big night, but eventually was able to get the bus docked! Luckily, with some pre-planning, Dr2 & Crew were shuttled right on in to a table, Thanks to Mark from MAJ & Mike from CB, we really appreciate it! Looking around, it would appear that the weather outside tonight didn’t do much to detour the crowd, as TNT’s was filling up quickly. 2 Days Out hit the stage when we were walking in, but boy did they grab our attention! Having a drummer (Todd) that wears a “Hannibal” type of mask, A lead guitarist (Mark) that is like the energizer bunny, a 5 string bass player (Vinnie Detroit), and being fronted with an ever so calm lead singer/guitarist (Chuck Runyon), no wonder 2 Days Out tends to turn heads! You can catch these guys over at The Dawg House in Clinton Township on December 15th before they head out to West Virginia & Ohio early next month, or better yet, stop by their MySpace page listed in the Dr2 Links and check them out for yourself!

The next band up is one that one of our Crew informed us of after she heard one of their sets over at The Dawg House a couple of months ago. Well after a few missed opportunities, and a whole lot of “when you gonna check’em out”, we finally had our chance tonight to see Facture in action. One thing is for sure, like father like daughter? Yep, I’ll be damned if these guys didn’t knock our socks off! With their opener, Across The Line, Facture came out hitting hard as they ran the fuse line for the night, even kicking out the Title track of their latest CD, Life’s A Bitch, before they hit up on the set ending Personal Anthem. The delivery of their music was quite phenomenal as Joe Serra (lead vox) has a way of getting everybody up and into his bands performance. Of course, with lead guitarist Chris Hatty kranking out the riffs, and the heavy hitting rhythm section of Dave Boddington (rhythm guitar, vox), Matt Hellebuyck (bass) and Tim Boddington (drums) backing you up, its apparent why these guys can bring down the house! Fresh off a “Bodog Battle Of The Bands” win down at Saint Andrews, Facture will now travel to Cleveland to Rep Detroit in the Semi-Regional Finals of that contest. Go ahead and check these guys out, their in our “Top Friends” on our myspace page!

Detroit Hip Hop artist Hatch was on next. Not sure what to make of this guy, AKA “Wise Guy”, but the crowd in attendance tonight sure did. With teeth shattering rhymes and moves that would make one ache, these 2 guys come out and can really ignite a party as the front of the stage became one big sea of moving bodies! Trading off rhymes, Hatch hit on a 30 minute set that was a true testament of lung capacity! I mean how many words can this guy get out in one breathe; I know I couldn’t count them without taking one myself! He has a new CD coming out in Feburary called “LikeWise”, Catch him on his MySpace page here- Hatch "Wise Guy".

Well you know there’s definitely a Critical Bill celebration going on when Zug Izland shows up. Wow! What a spectacular set by these veterans of the Detroit scene, as they took that fuse that Facture had laid down earlier and connected it right to the detonator! Once connected, Syn (lead vox) proceeded to tighten down them “Zug Lugs” to the delight of all the Zuggalos in the house. Blasting through a 45 minute set, Zug Izland worked the the crowd into a frenzy, unleashing their popular songs Suicide, Chemical Girl and even threw in their awesome cover of the Pink Floyd classic, Another Brick in The Wall. 2Phat (drums) absolutely rocked the beat while Joey V (guitar) and the “Volume 4” clad Dave V (bass) dropped the enormous back beat down everyone’s throat, causing all to scream for more! Amazingly, Syn even picked up an acoustic guitar and slowed things down, for about a minute! A great set by one of Detroit’s best Rock bands, Zug Izland graciously set the stage for the remainder of the night, and by the way, they too have a new album in the works. Keep your eyes on these guys as they continuously tour not only locally, but also get their fair share of gigs across the US too, you can find them in our Dr2 Links here.

What do you get after 2 ½ + months on the road touring across the US? How’s about a gigantic party back in your hometown, in the same club “Where it all began”! Hey while you’re at it, throw in a few hundred people that are as eager as you are to celebrate the success of such a feat. Riding the release of their latest effort, “Downtown The World”, Critical Bill “stormed” into T.N.T’s to finish off what those before them tonight had set in place. Opening with their trademark, This Is Critical, Powerdise (lead vox) literally clawed his way through the rabid crowd looking for that damn detonator, finding it sitting squarely in front of C-Bass’s (drums) ginormous drum kit! Holding back nothing, Mike Scott (guitar), shredded the stage with his ferocious licks, stopping only long enough to slam a beer with his fans, and at one point, a shot with Powerdise. Running through a “Greatest Hits” type of set, (believe me they can) DJ Tome Sawyer (beats, scratches, etc.) set the beat while Critical Phil (bass) supplied the thumps, as Critical Bill gave up Suffa, Get High, Downtown The World, Like That leading Powerdise to throw himself on that detonator to completely blow TNT’s apart. Climbing above all the rubble, Powerdise gave us a few that weren’t even on the list like Jump and then wowed us all with their take of Sweet Home Alabama! Pure mayhem best describes this amazing set from Da Cleme’s favorite party boys! Just take a look at the pic’s over at our MySpace page to get a glimpse of the raucous night of Rock & Roll that played out inside of what is left of TNT’s. The Critical Bill machine is not quite down yet as they are lining up another tour of major proportions for the early part of 2008, so keep your eyes peeled here for all the latest announcements as they unfold. And remember you can find Critical Bill’s “Downtown The World at all the major stores around town (how cool is that!) or order it up over here at Amazom.com. And don’t forget, you can find Critical Bill in our “Top Friends” on our MySpace page or in the Dr2 Links too! Can’t wait for the next Critical Bill Party………!

This Is Critical!

“Hurricanes Trash The Token”

Radiocraft @ The Token - CD Release Party 11/21/07

Not the Rain, Not the Sleet, Not even the Snow could stop the Hurricanes that Radiocraft unleashed last night from “Trashing” The Token Lounge as they celebrated the release of their latest CD “Catch Your Death”. Inside this awesome west side “Rock Club”; Radiocraft had the place packed for a night of raucous rock & roll that featured some of Michigan’s best! Hosted by Mitch Phillips of MichiganBands.com, the night kicked off on a bang with a band from Flint, MI that we had not had the chance to see before called ZEN. Such an amazing sound from these guys that they had Dr2 running over to their merch table to order up a copy of their CD, “Again”, even before their set was over. This is one of the great things about local music, you just never know what you’ll run into. It was great to finally get to chat up Mitch of MB, and his partner in crime WebMaster Rick! These guys are walking encyclopedias of local music that we here at Dr2 can really appreciate, especially when the conversation turns to bands like Salem Witchcraft, didn’t think I’d ever hear that name again, next time we’ll have to hit up on “Good Humor”? The Downriver “Kings of Everything”, especially that hard edged rock & roll, Ray Street Park, came up to the Token to help Suzie Ferro & Radiocraft trash the joint with one helluva set that had the Token taking cover. Anybody ever wonder why one would want to “Break Dance” (at least that’s what it looked like?) @ A Rock Show? Maybe its better we don’t! A quick stop to get “Ugly” at the bar with Geo serving up the drinks, turned extremely Ugly when the “Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll” video flashed across the Token’s huge display, much to the approval of the huge crowd that had gathered for this special Radiocraft night. Getting up in front of the swelling crowd, Mitch Phillips threw down one the best introductions Dr2 has witnessed, (ok, so we’re partial here on this one, since Detroit Rock Review received a great plug, Thanks Mitch- you rock!) setting the stage for a pre-recorded intro of Radiocraft that exploded into our favorite bombastic rocking track, Bribe The Guards. Having Ron Alcini (guitar), Kevin Breslin (guitar), kranking out the hooks, and Ken Williams (bass), and Chris Castro (drums) laying down the beat, there certainly was no bribing required of anyone in the crowd tonight, as the Token’s dance floor became a sea of mad rockers, complete with more break dancing! Still having a hard time understanding that whole thing……. Ready to give all in attendance what they came for, Suzie Ferro, whose been fighting through some throat problems of late, pulled it all together and pulled off a tremendous night of “Radiocraft Rock”, and from what Dr2 seen, enjoyed it as much as we did! Burning Blankets and Butterflies set the new tune, Siren Song, off, warning of a fast approaching Category 5. With Vito LaFata sitting in on the Steel Pedal, Radiocraft brought things down, as Ferro performed The Stars Song for the first time live and sounded flawless. Fantastic! Tonight even included a “Castro Style” drum solo that was absolutely riveting! Driving the night home, the storm that was Radiocraft had the Token being nearly evacuated as Hurricanes came crashing down nearly destroying the place before finishing the set with the “Classic” Red. Before a tremendous roaring crowd, and some more pumping up by Phillips, Radiocraft bowed to the fans and returned to the stage for one last song, Ac/Dc’s Walk All Over You! What a sight to be seen when Ferro invited all up on stage to join in closing out the night, including not only the Break Dancing Dude, but a slew of friends & family that even had “Primortal Lenny” rocking out with Suzie as the storm surge finally receded! What an awesome kick-off to the Thanksgiving weekend, and a great ending to what has been an amazing year for Radiocraft who will be taking some time off till ’08 for some well deserved rest. Check them out at www.radiocraftmusic.com to stay up on all the latest, and while you’re there be sure to pick up your copy of the new disc from Radiocraft “Catch Your Death”. And remember to keep it tuned right here @ DetroitRockReview.com for all things “Michigan Music”!

Radiocraft Rocks!

Brittney Birthday Bash Blows Up The Dawg House

Brittney Birthday Bash Blows Up The Dawg House

Ever want to know exactly what it would take to “Blow Up” The Dawg House. Well, first you get three kick ass rock & roll bands together on the Saturday before Halloween, invite all of Metro Detroit, mix in some “hot” wild ass Halloween costumes, then have Brittney’s 18th Birthday Party! A sure fire recipe for an outrageous night of “Greasy Detroit Rock & Roll” that will have the roof of the Dawg House laying in the middle of Groesbeck Highway! If you were at the Dawg House this past Saturday, then you know just how hard it is to do, you know, getting that damn roof off the street and back on the Dawg House. If you don’t know who “Brittney” is, then just jump over here http://www.myspace.com/tremontigal and you’ll see that she’s a fixture on the local Detroit Rock scene, and now that she’s turned 18, I’m sure you will be running into her at the local Rock Clubs around town. Quite the mega fan of a variety of Detroit’s harder edged bands, this young lady could be found hanging out at all the “festivals”, and other all ages show throughout the city the past summer or two. So when it was announced that her birthday party was being held down the street @ The Dawg House, Dr2 just had to be there. Sliding into the Dawg Pound, it was obvious there was not only a birthday party going on, but it was Halloween Party Time also, as many in attendance were sporting there favorite costumes. From the gory look, to the little more “spicy look”, all ends of the costume spectrum were well repped tonight as Soul Circus took the stage to get this party started. Armed with a 14 song set list written on the back of a “Labatt” Blue Light/Soul Circus poster (how cool is that?), it didn’t take long for it to become a Soul Circus Party! Opening with “I’m Alive”, Soul Circus came out swinging, as all the rock & roll freaks swarmed to the front of the stage, setting the stage for the loosening of the The Dawg House’s roof! Ken Thomas (drums) was sporting a new Rikki Rockett “Custom” kit, complete with a new “Soul Circus” skin, one of a kind paint job, and a kicker the size of 55 gallon drum! Talk about a sub-woofer! This thing thumped almost as much as John Massey on his bass! And with Kevin Kanka (vox) swinging from the lighting trusses, Tommy Furbacher’s (guitar) relentless shredding, Soul Circus quickly had the Dawg House crowd on its knees! Sending out “The Enemy” to Brittney for her birthday, Soul Circus continued to work on all them nails holding down the roof as they previewed some “new” tracks for us. Dr2 can’t wait for this supposed new disc, we’ll have to verify when/if they’re planning a release and you’ll be the first to know! Bringing Rachel May (Free Press, Broadzilla, Nova Driver, Grinder) up on stage to “duet” with Kevin on “Chain of Fools” was an awesome highlight of this “Bombastic” set, as the camera’s all began to flash brighter than the light system! Raising the roof a full 2 ½ feet off the walls, Soul Circus came crashing down on us with a cover of Billy Idol’s “White Wedding”, followed by the monster mash hit “Flesh-N-Bone”, before closing out the set with yet another “guest” vocalist (Tara) on an AC/DC cover that removed any remaining nails holding down that roof! What an amazing set by an amazing band that just keeps getting better every time we see them! Dr2 takes our hat off to Soul Circus, not only for their great set tonight, but for the things they did to make this all happen! Check out their site at www.soulcircus.us to find out where they’ll be next!

During the break Dr2 was surprised to see the guys from Critical Bill stop in for the party, talk about showing some love! We spent some time chatting up with “C-Bass” & “Powerdise” and found out that they’ve been having an extremely fun time out on the road in support of their latest effort “Downtown The World”. It had been about a month or so since they’ve hit the road across the States and were in town for a special Wrif cruise party concert out on the Detroit River. They had a few extra days off before they hit the road again to finish up the tour before landing back in the D over at TNT’s December 1st for a bang up concert where the wild ride they’ve been on all started!

Dismantle hit the stage next with their “More Rock & Roll” set that bowls you over with their sure fire straight up rock & roll! Last month these guys took their own shot at “dismantling” the Dawg House with their own CD Release party that left the place in shambles (see story here). More Rock & Roll is the name of their latest effort and believe me, that is what we all got tonight! Opening fire on the Dawg House crowd with “Liquor Store”, Dismantle began raising the roof themselves with an 11 song set that drew heavily from “More Rock & Roll”, playing all but 3 off the new Disc. Tossing in some awesome renditions of “Tush” & “Cocaine”, Justin Herbert (vox) once again slowed it down on “Life @ The Top” while Glynn Somma (guitar), Eric Brodzik (drums), and Brad Causley (bass) left the stage to “mingle” with all the “Dawgs”! By the time they closed out their set with the Title track of their new disc “More Rock & Roll” & “One Night Stand”, the Dawg House was crawling with local celebrities and rock & roll freaks alike, all frantically climbing over one another trying to hold the roof in place! Dismantle will be playing over at the New Way Bar this Friday Night or stop on by and check them out @ dismantledetroit.com.While everyone was busy trying to re-attach that roof, nobody noticed that Slave To The Beautiful had set up and was ready to rock out for their #1 Fan Brittney! Making sure that everyone knew that “we’re not dressed up for Halloween, we fuckin look like this every day!” Abe and the guys kicked it into high gear with “Angry Thirteen” & “Black Desert Sun” that blew that damn roof straight into the street! During the set the guys from STTB had the “Happy Birthday” thing going with Brittney up on stage as Abe picked her up over his shoulders, spinning all the while during “Spin Me Round”, as I think he made the Birthday Girl’s day! Another kick ass set by STTB tonight as they closed their show with one wild version of Kiss’s “Strutter”. Surf on over to slavetothebeautiful.com and check these guys out, they Rock! Remember to check back often as Dr2 has some more Dr2 Views heading your way on some of the areas newest releases from some of your favorite bands!

Detroit Rocks!

"Cheap Liquor And Live Music" Implodes The Dawg House!

Cheap Liquor And Live Music Implodes The Dawg House!

This past Saturday Night The Dawg House was imploded. Yep, you heard it right, IMPLODED. Literally, if not figuratively, and if you where there, you know what I’m talking about. Jim even had Mark call in Mr. Roof to asses the damage! Ok, the roof did survive, barely, as the Dawg House was invaded from the North, South, West and all points in between. Bad Side dropped into the Dawg House all the way from Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan way up there in the UP, for a CD Release Party that rocked like no other! Celebrating their new CD “Bad Side II” for the Detroit Area, btw-one awesome Disc (check it out here), Bad Side headlined a great line up put together by MAJ Entertainment that included QuickShot Ace, Dangerous Pursuit, and Slave To The Beautiful, before a Dawg House crowd that included many from the local scene. A quick set from Royal Oak’s QuickShot Ace was refreshing, as they set things in motion for what was setting up to be one of those crazy “Rock & Roll” parties that you won’t soon forget. We missed a chance to catch Dangerous Pursuit a while back, and after tonight’s show are regretting it. This young, up & coming “five some” from Hartland Michigan, are making a name for themselves around town with a Rock & Roll show that rolls through the Hair Band days with the music to back it up! Raw and powerful, DP brings the energy back to the music as Brett Blacker(vox) fronts this hard hitting group with Ian Kirwan on the leads, Mike Leasia handling the rhythm, and Nick Marocco(kit) & Brad Barr (bass) driving the beat. DP had asked for our attention, but tonight they took it, as they ripped out an awesome cover of Deep Purple’s “Highway Star” that had all the fists in the air! Currently in the studio recording some tracks with Eric Kluiber of Overloaded, DP gave the Dawg House a real “treat” with a few of the new ones they’re working on. Sounded awesome, and we hope they’re close to having these completed as we’ll definitely be working to get an early copy of this one for a Dr2 View! You can hear their music & find out where they’ll be next @ www.dangerouspursuit.net. With the energy level inside the Dawg House rising, it wasn’t surprising to see all the local “rockers” rolling in. Even Chris Honoway was in the house, shooting a new video for Bad Side before and during their set. It was a great night to catch up with all of Dr2’s friends that showed up tonight & a really awesome night to make new friends! With 60 Second Crush, Overloaded, Soul Circus, Koz & Evaline Guitars and all the great bands on tonight’s bill, we could have had one of those “All Star” Jams tonight, hey there’s a thought…..Dr2 wants to send a shout out to all those who did make it out to the Dawg tonight, and if we missed any of ya, we’ll catch ya next time. Dr2 takes it’s hat off to all of you (u know who you are) and to all the bands up on stage tonight! We love Michigan Made Music”! Now Dr2 has seen Detroit’s Slave To The Beautiful a few times before, and we kind of knew what to expect with these guys, until tonight! Wow, give these guys the award for “Most Improved”, as they literally jumped in Da Dawg House like a pack of rabid dogs and shredded the place to pieces! STTB’s power house rhythm section of John (bass), Marty (guitar), and Rand (kit) give Abe (vox) the freedom to jump around on & off the stage! With wicked backbeats & ear splitting leads, STTB blasted us with their “Anthem” Black Dessert Sunshine while the Dawg House’s roof started to sway from the mayhem happening below. They’ll be back up to The Dawg House this Saturday for “Britney’s B’Day Party” with Soul Circus & Dismantle. STTB plays a lot of shows, so you should have no problem finding one near you! Just hop on the web and hit them up @ www.myspace.com/slavetothebeautiful. Well Dr2 had been waiting to see this next band for quite some time and tonight the wait was finally over. We here at Dr2 have talked about “stumbling” across different bands who we’ve never seen or heard before, while checking out other bands. This is one of those bands, albeit we “stumbled” across this one in a whole new manner. Welcome to the “Myspace” age! Yes, myspace. “Yeah right”, we thought, a “Rock & Roll” band from the UP? Well as that little old myspace player came up, you couldn’t help but sit up and take notice! Which brings us to tonight. Mind you we had only heard their myspace player, then we were completely won over by the new Disc Bad Side II, yet we had never seen them perform live. From the opening chords of “Living In Fear”, from the new one, the Dawg House was in trouble! I’ve never seen as many awe struck faces as I did during this totally amazing set, and Dr2 soon realized that Bad Side was not going home without wreaking havoc on all those who dared to enter Da Dawg House tonight. With the velocity of a speeding bullet, Jason Mapes (guitars) just permeates your ears with hook after hook of heavy melodies that literally knock you over! Melissa Krahnke delivers her “Larger Than Life”, vixen like vocals, with the shear beauty and elegance of a rock & roll machine! Backed by an amazing set of musicians, who ironically, are not from the UP, Jonah Brockman (drums) of Tecumseh, Mi & Richie Blair (bass) of Nashville, TN, Bad Side proceeded to shred whatever DP & STTB left behind of The Dawg House. All eyes were on Lissa as she “roamed” The Dawg House Stage, her hair flying wildly, blowing us all away with “Call Me If Ya Want To”, & “This Is How You Made Me”. Bad Side then went to their first one for a few with “Money Money” & “Feel Me”. Even slowing it down a bit as Melissa took over with her piano and tremendous vocals on one of the Crew’s favorites “Don’t Tell”. Putting on a phenomenal show that was as much fun to watch, as it was to hear, Bad Side raised the roof & “Imploded” The Dawg House with an explosive combo of “Cheap Liquor & Live Music” and the set ending “Let It Roll” which featured Jason cranking on an Evaline! Wow, it was like “what the hell did we just see?” as you could feel the vibe that Bad Side just unleashed inside the Dawg House rolling out onto Groesbeck Hwy! A true Rock & Roll experience, which literally had Dr2 left in a haze that you usually feel after having just seen Kid Rock @ The Palace or something! I’m betting that we’ll see a lot more of Bad Side around town, in fact you can catch them on January 17th @ the Emerald Theater, or stop by and give them a listen and pick up a copy of their new CD “Bad Side II” @ www.myspace.com/badsidemusic .

What a Night, What a Show! Bad Side Rocks!

Blender Blow Out @ The Bag 10/13/07

on .

Whoa! What a Blow Out @ The Bag Saturday Night! Blender Magazine put on a throw down over at the Magic Bag in Ferndale this past weekend, and from the moment you walked into that magnificent venue on Woodward, you could just feel the excitement building, as the people kept filing in! With some of the proceeds from tonight’s show benefiting the McCarty Foundation, it was a “Party” with a cause, Blender even had a silent auction going on through out the night for a special “one of a kind” autographed poster donated by Kid Rock’s sister. I know we didn’t get it……oh well! These Blender Parties are starting to become “The” place to be, with a packed house, excellent bands, great venue, and even free Blender Mags everywhere for you to take! Certainly a great place to be for “networking” face to face, which is a heck of a lot more interesting than the myspace thing that seems to be the norm nowadays. Dr2 has been to a couple of these things and tonight’s ranks right up there at the top. With a fairly packed house, and a great line-up featuring Dirt Road Logic, Dirty Americans, Five Horse Johnson, and Ty Stone, tonight’s show proved to be as diverse as ever. You had the country/southern rock of DRL & 5 Horse Johnson, the straight up rock & roll of the Dirty Americans, then you had Ty Stone, who falls somewhere in between. From the moment that the boys from DRL took the stage, you knew they were on a mission to win over some fans. DRL certainly succeeded in that tonight by blowing us away and winning over Dr2! What a power house, as they tore through a bevy of country tunes that had that hard “Michigan” edge to them. No wimp ass stuff here baby! These guys came out hitting, with Eric Kelly’s “wild bull” vocals slicing through the Bag (and actually breaking a string on the first chord!), Luke Elder continuously climbing his kicker, Paul D shredding like Danny M, and Jeff Rester’s thumping in your face, you couldn’t help but get up front & jam! Having that country rock style, DRL lays down a foot stompin beat that has everyone dancing and a shakin’, and by the time they finished their set with “Watch It Burn”, they literally had the roof of the Bag a shakin’. You’d a thought you were at a Kid Rock show or something. We also picked up their disc "Great Lake Heartache", you should to, it's awesome! You can find them on the web @ www.dirtroadlogic.com. Now what about that poster...........Dirt Road Logic’s finish was a perfect lead in to the next act up, Dirty Americans, who on their own ooze Kid Rock where ever they play! These guys are right at home on that big stage the Magic Bag has, with a sound that’s even bigger, and a show that never stops! Armed with a genuine arsenal of hot & heavy material, Dirty Americans came to Ferndale & bombarded the Bag! From Jet “Black Holy Water” to “Detroit Son of a Bitch”, the Dirty Americans picked up right where those Dirt Road Logic boys left off, and had the entire Bag a shakin. It was an absolutely awesome sight seeing Myron playing to the crowd, as he couldn’t stay off the big ass sub’s in front of the stage as he’d reach out for the high fives. Detroit, rock & roll, no way, you can mess with that!!! The Dirty Americans are constantly playing around the state, so find a show near you @ http://www.dirtyamericans.com. By the way, I never did get that damn poster….. Five Horse Johnson, Toledo, what more can I say? They came to “Rock The Country” and that they did. Damn poster…… There was no doubt who everyone came to see tonight. As the lights went down, the empty pit quickly filled up, as everyone wanted to see one of our own, Ty Stone! Stepping out on the stage in his black suit, Ty blew the Bag away with his high energy stage show. Konniption Fit @ TNT’s 10-6-07

Quick, get out the Katnip, I think I’m having a Konniption Fit! Brothers & Sisters, if you missed Saturday Night over at TNT’s in Clinton Twp, then clear out all those hairballs and listen up! With the temperature outside near 90, a Rock Room nearly as hot inside, 5 dollar cover for 6 bands, Cold Beer, and Sexy Women on stage, what the hell else could anyone want? How about a smoking line-up featuring one of the “Hottest” bands around today, Konniption Fit! With Sikmindz, Blackmail, Spades Alone, Mansfield Park, Konniption Fit, and Not To Be Found all in the house tonight, things were bound to get out of hand! And out of hand they did, including Dr2 & Crew! What a night this turned out to be. Pulling into TNT’s after the first 2 bands had already gone off, Dr2 was ecstatic to see another awesome set by “Spades Alone”. Having talked up this young band since seeing them for the first time a few weeks ago, Dr2 had been anxious for some of the crew to check them out. So with some of our crew in tow, Spades Alone came out and won over Dr2’s Crew tonight with their unique style and sound, even debuting a new song never performed live before, and it rocked! Job well done guys! It was good to see a full crowd tonight and I imagine all of the bands were happy with this too. With such great weather during October, I was surprised anyone wanted to be inside tonight. But inside they were, and from what Dr2 witnessed next, they had every reason to be inside! When the lights went down, and the PA came up, there was Konniption Fit, the band that Dr2 was here to see tonight. Opening their set with “Rush Hour”, Konnipition Fit raised the temperature inside TNT’s with a blistering hot set, complete with short skirts and fishnet stockings! If you didn’t feel the heat from this set tonight, I’d have to say you were passed out behind the bar. Jason Caine (lead guitar, lead vox) has himself surrounded by a ferocious cast that includes Lacey (guitars), Eric Vancil (bass), and Keith James(kit). But it is Amber Cat (backing vocals) who gyrates around the stage, interacting with Jason at all angles and playing off of his leads, that really turns this into a rock show! Rolling right into “Only Maybe”, Konnipition Fit pumps out that power punk rock and keeps it coming, demanding every one to their feet as their beats become contagious. By the time “Catnip” came screaming out, everyone was swaying and singing along to this Konnipition Fit anthem! Shifting into high gear midway through, Caine effortlessly throws his catchy hooks over the heavy beats of Vancil & James, while Lacey drove the rhythm home on “Ego Trip”. During one point, Amber Cat threw herself to floor in worship like moves around the now soloing Caine. Boy, this guy can rip off a guitar solo that raises the heat a few degrees itself. A very solid cover of Blondie’s “One Way Or Another” flowed right into the set ending “Get Away”, as Konnipition Fit certainly showed us here @ Dr2 that they are one extremely entertaining group, that not only can play, but can deliver the visuals to boot! You can find Konnipition Fit playing all over the Detroit area, including the Token Lounge this Saturday and up at New York, New York in Chesterfield Twp. the following Friday. Or stop by their site @ myspace.com/konnipitionfit. And as always, you can find them in our “Top Friends” on myspace, or in the Dr2 Band List under links, right here on DetroitRockReview.com!
