“Hurricanes Trash The Token”

Radiocraft @ The Token - CD Release Party 11/21/07

Not the Rain, Not the Sleet, Not even the Snow could stop the Hurricanes that Radiocraft unleashed last night from “Trashing” The Token Lounge as they celebrated the release of their latest CD “Catch Your Death”. Inside this awesome west side “Rock Club”; Radiocraft had the place packed for a night of raucous rock & roll that featured some of Michigan’s best! Hosted by Mitch Phillips of MichiganBands.com, the night kicked off on a bang with a band from Flint, MI that we had not had the chance to see before called ZEN. Such an amazing sound from these guys that they had Dr2 running over to their merch table to order up a copy of their CD, “Again”, even before their set was over. This is one of the great things about local music, you just never know what you’ll run into. It was great to finally get to chat up Mitch of MB, and his partner in crime WebMaster Rick! These guys are walking encyclopedias of local music that we here at Dr2 can really appreciate, especially when the conversation turns to bands like Salem Witchcraft, didn’t think I’d ever hear that name again, next time we’ll have to hit up on “Good Humor”? The Downriver “Kings of Everything”, especially that hard edged rock & roll, Ray Street Park, came up to the Token to help Suzie Ferro & Radiocraft trash the joint with one helluva set that had the Token taking cover. Anybody ever wonder why one would want to “Break Dance” (at least that’s what it looked like?) @ A Rock Show? Maybe its better we don’t! A quick stop to get “Ugly” at the bar with Geo serving up the drinks, turned extremely Ugly when the “Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll” video flashed across the Token’s huge display, much to the approval of the huge crowd that had gathered for this special Radiocraft night. Getting up in front of the swelling crowd, Mitch Phillips threw down one the best introductions Dr2 has witnessed, (ok, so we’re partial here on this one, since Detroit Rock Review received a great plug, Thanks Mitch- you rock!) setting the stage for a pre-recorded intro of Radiocraft that exploded into our favorite bombastic rocking track, Bribe The Guards. Having Ron Alcini (guitar), Kevin Breslin (guitar), kranking out the hooks, and Ken Williams (bass), and Chris Castro (drums) laying down the beat, there certainly was no bribing required of anyone in the crowd tonight, as the Token’s dance floor became a sea of mad rockers, complete with more break dancing! Still having a hard time understanding that whole thing……. Ready to give all in attendance what they came for, Suzie Ferro, whose been fighting through some throat problems of late, pulled it all together and pulled off a tremendous night of “Radiocraft Rock”, and from what Dr2 seen, enjoyed it as much as we did! Burning Blankets and Butterflies set the new tune, Siren Song, off, warning of a fast approaching Category 5. With Vito LaFata sitting in on the Steel Pedal, Radiocraft brought things down, as Ferro performed The Stars Song for the first time live and sounded flawless. Fantastic! Tonight even included a “Castro Style” drum solo that was absolutely riveting! Driving the night home, the storm that was Radiocraft had the Token being nearly evacuated as Hurricanes came crashing down nearly destroying the place before finishing the set with the “Classic” Red. Before a tremendous roaring crowd, and some more pumping up by Phillips, Radiocraft bowed to the fans and returned to the stage for one last song, Ac/Dc’s Walk All Over You! What a sight to be seen when Ferro invited all up on stage to join in closing out the night, including not only the Break Dancing Dude, but a slew of friends & family that even had “Primortal Lenny” rocking out with Suzie as the storm surge finally receded! What an awesome kick-off to the Thanksgiving weekend, and a great ending to what has been an amazing year for Radiocraft who will be taking some time off till ’08 for some well deserved rest. Check them out at www.radiocraftmusic.com to stay up on all the latest, and while you’re there be sure to pick up your copy of the new disc from Radiocraft “Catch Your Death”. And remember to keep it tuned right here @ DetroitRockReview.com for all things “Michigan Music”!
