Hard Rock Crushed

12/7/07

We’re running a bit late on these this week, but wow what a blast last Thursday as the Hard Rock was “Crushed” by our very own local hard rock favorites 60 Second Crush! Located in the Heart of Downtown Detroit in the Campus Martius district, The Hard Rock Café-Detroit has started hosting what they call Hard Rock Local Music Thursdays, quite an interesting setting, as local music invades this normally “mild” mannered music themed restaurant. We here at Dr2 always love to point the “Bus” south in the direction of Detroit, and having the Hard Rock Café hosting local bands gives us a great reason to do just that. Last Thursday we headed on downtown to catch a set by 60 Second Crush, who we have not had a chance to see since way back at “Da Club 54” days! Now that’s a name we don’t hear to often any more after a great run at rock & roll “bardom” that failed miserably. But, we hear they are under new management over there and actually have some “real” Rock & Roll (and fabulous punk) schedule up there this Saturday where you can catch Publik Parking, Convergance Theory, Choking Susan, and Lithium all in what is billed as a “Huge” Birthday Bash for a number of people in and close to these bands. We have also learned that they are actually bringing in a “Real” Sound System (something that has been lacking at quite a few clubs of late) & Sound Guy! Just may be something worth checking out this weekend. Heading in to Detroit this time of year is always a treat, with all the crazy lights and that humongous Christmas Tree all lit up right outside the Hard Rock really gives you that Holidaze feel! Pulling up near the front door of the Hard Rock was pretty simple as we parked the bus and headed on into the Café, only to be pleasantly surprised to find that they have actually pulled down the seating and railing of that “raised” level to make up their “new” stage as opposed to having the bands play in the Atrium that we have all been so used to seeing. The coolest thing about this “Rock Club” is the fact that they have that awesome food and ice cold beer, mix in some great “live” music, and Dr2 is in heaven for a Thursday night! Grabbing a seat we noticed that 60 Second Crush were being interviewed by Detroit Dungeons which is a local Detroit Cable TV show, but even more surprising was the “interviewer”, none other than one “Dana Deadly”, who also happens to be the bassist in 60 Second Crush! This girl is amazing as she not only plays bass for Crush, But also for Vinnie Dombrowski’s Crud, & now she’s doing TV, where does she find the time? After a few more questions and a few more cold beers, Crush hit the stage opening with the fast paced Control that got everyone taking notice. Pumping it up with Suckerpunch the Crushers had the Hard Rock’s PA bouncing off the ceiling! Pretty good sounding PA I might add, maybe need the subs down on floor, but other than that it, it “Suckerpunched” itself! These guys have really come around with their stage show as Tommy T (vox) takes command of the stage delivering his vocals like a raging bull! With the addition of Dave Hicks’ (lead guitar) screaming leads to compliment Peder’s crushing rhythm, 60 Second Crush had the Hard Rock at it’s mercy with their mysterious Murder In Ohio. Ripping through this 9 song set drawn entirely from their latest effort, “Street Corner Of Fear", you could’t help but stand up, raise your fist and pump it high in the air as the formidable rhythm section of Dana Deadly (bass) and the infamous Schimdog (drums) will literally rip your face off as they laid down a thunderous back beat to drive home the Crushers’ songs right through you brain! Getting the Hard Rock crowd up on their feet and to the front of the stage with Sister Suicide, 60 Second Crush then delivered one of our favorite “bombastic” Crush jams, Street Corner Of Fear, before ending the set with Weekend Junkie. What an awesome set from 60 Second Crush tonight that certainly will have Dr2 checking out the Hard Rock again for this “Hard Rock Local Music Thursdays”, and you should too! To check out all the pics from this night, head on over to our “MySpace” page. Be sure to check out 60 Second Crush out on their MySpace page which you can find in our “Top Friends” or find one of their shows near you over on our “Dr2 GiG Calendar”! Stay tuned to Detroit Rock Review as we will soon be releasing our “Dr2 View” on “Street Corner Of Fear”, and as always, remember to purchase 60 Second Crush’s “Street Corner Of Fear” head on over to CdBaby to order one up!

60 Second Crush Rocks!
