Brittney Birthday Bash Blows Up The Dawg House

Ever want to know exactly what it would take to “Blow Up” The Dawg House. Well, first you get three kick ass rock & roll bands together on the Saturday before Halloween, invite all of Metro Detroit, mix in some “hot” wild ass Halloween costumes, then have Brittney’s 18th Birthday Party! A sure fire recipe for an outrageous night of “Greasy Detroit Rock & Roll” that will have the roof of the Dawg House laying in the middle of Groesbeck Highway! If you were at the Dawg House this past Saturday, then you know just how hard it is to do, you know, getting that damn roof off the street and back on the Dawg House. If you don’t know who “Brittney” is, then just jump over here http://www.myspace.com/tremontigal and you’ll see that she’s a fixture on the local Detroit Rock scene, and now that she’s turned 18, I’m sure you will be running into her at the local Rock Clubs around town. Quite the mega fan of a variety of Detroit’s harder edged bands, this young lady could be found hanging out at all the “festivals”, and other all ages show throughout the city the past summer or two. So when it was announced that her birthday party was being held down the street @ The Dawg House, Dr2 just had to be there. Sliding into the Dawg Pound, it was obvious there was not only a birthday party going on, but it was Halloween Party Time also, as many in attendance were sporting there favorite costumes. From the gory look, to the little more “spicy look”, all ends of the costume spectrum were well repped tonight as Soul Circus took the stage to get this party started. Armed with a 14 song set list written on the back of a “Labatt” Blue Light/Soul Circus poster (how cool is that?), it didn’t take long for it to become a Soul Circus Party! Opening with “I’m Alive”, Soul Circus came out swinging, as all the rock & roll freaks swarmed to the front of the stage, setting the stage for the loosening of the The Dawg House’s roof! Ken Thomas (drums) was sporting a new Rikki Rockett “Custom” kit, complete with a new “Soul Circus” skin, one of a kind paint job, and a kicker the size of 55 gallon drum! Talk about a sub-woofer! This thing thumped almost as much as John Massey on his bass! And with Kevin Kanka (vox) swinging from the lighting trusses, Tommy Furbacher’s (guitar) relentless shredding, Soul Circus quickly had the Dawg House crowd on its knees! Sending out “The Enemy” to Brittney for her birthday, Soul Circus continued to work on all them nails holding down the roof as they previewed some “new” tracks for us. Dr2 can’t wait for this supposed new disc, we’ll have to verify when/if they’re planning a release and you’ll be the first to know! Bringing Rachel May (Free Press, Broadzilla, Nova Driver, Grinder) up on stage to “duet” with Kevin on “Chain of Fools” was an awesome highlight of this “Bombastic” set, as the camera’s all began to flash brighter than the light system! Raising the roof a full 2 ½ feet off the walls, Soul Circus came crashing down on us with a cover of Billy Idol’s “White Wedding”, followed by the monster mash hit “Flesh-N-Bone”, before closing out the set with yet another “guest” vocalist (Tara) on an AC/DC cover that removed any remaining nails holding down that roof! What an amazing set by an amazing band that just keeps getting better every time we see them! Dr2 takes our hat off to Soul Circus, not only for their great set tonight, but for the things they did to make this all happen! Check out their site at www.soulcircus.us to find out where they’ll be next!

During the break Dr2 was surprised to see the guys from Critical Bill stop in for the party, talk about showing some love! We spent some time chatting up with “C-Bass” & “Powerdise” and found out that they’ve been having an extremely fun time out on the road in support of their latest effort “Downtown The World”. It had been about a month or so since they’ve hit the road across the States and were in town for a special Wrif cruise party concert out on the Detroit River. They had a few extra days off before they hit the road again to finish up the tour before landing back in the D over at TNT’s December 1st for a bang up concert where the wild ride they’ve been on all started!

Dismantle hit the stage next with their “More Rock & Roll” set that bowls you over with their sure fire straight up rock & roll! Last month these guys took their own shot at “dismantling” the Dawg House with their own CD Release party that left the place in shambles (see story here). More Rock & Roll is the name of their latest effort and believe me, that is what we all got tonight! Opening fire on the Dawg House crowd with “Liquor Store”, Dismantle began raising the roof themselves with an 11 song set that drew heavily from “More Rock & Roll”, playing all but 3 off the new Disc. Tossing in some awesome renditions of “Tush” & “Cocaine”, Justin Herbert (vox) once again slowed it down on “Life @ The Top” while Glynn Somma (guitar), Eric Brodzik (drums), and Brad Causley (bass) left the stage to “mingle” with all the “Dawgs”! By the time they closed out their set with the Title track of their new disc “More Rock & Roll” & “One Night Stand”, the Dawg House was crawling with local celebrities and rock & roll freaks alike, all frantically climbing over one another trying to hold the roof in place! Dismantle will be playing over at the New Way Bar this Friday Night or stop on by and check them out @ dismantledetroit.com.While everyone was busy trying to re-attach that roof, nobody noticed that Slave To The Beautiful had set up and was ready to rock out for their #1 Fan Brittney! Making sure that everyone knew that “we’re not dressed up for Halloween, we fuckin look like this every day!” Abe and the guys kicked it into high gear with “Angry Thirteen” & “Black Desert Sun” that blew that damn roof straight into the street! During the set the guys from STTB had the “Happy Birthday” thing going with Brittney up on stage as Abe picked her up over his shoulders, spinning all the while during “Spin Me Round”, as I think he made the Birthday Girl’s day! Another kick ass set by STTB tonight as they closed their show with one wild version of Kiss’s “Strutter”. Surf on over to slavetothebeautiful.com and check these guys out, they Rock! Remember to check back often as Dr2 has some more Dr2 Views heading your way on some of the areas newest releases from some of your favorite bands!
