International Pop Overthrow Invades Paycheck’s Lounge 

Looks like another “festival” will be banging the back walls of Hamtramck’s Paycheck’s Lounge when The International Pop Overthrow Festival kicks off tonight. With an array of the Detroit Area’s bands lined up for a week long music festival, the IPOF has little of everything for the music lover in ya! Check out the line-up then get ready to pony up $8 per night for this “touring” festival. Based out of Cali, the IPOF actually sets up in a number of towns nationally as well as internationally, and then brings in the local’s best musical acts for these multiple night fests! They’ll be in Hamtramck this week before heading out to cities like Chicago, K-Zoo, & Milwaukee, before heading over the pond to Liverpool!

The Orbitsuns host Redneck Disco Celebrating CD release at Callahan's on Saturday April 12

 

Auburn Hills, MI -Country fried rock and rollers The Orbitsuns celebrate the release of their new CD “Redneck Disco” at Callahan's on Saturday April 12. Known for an electrified live show that brings audiences to their feet, The Orbitsuns are a honky tonk hybrid of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Elvis with a twist of Detroit Rock City and sly humor. The Orbitsuns have shared stages with numerous country luminaries including David Allen Coe, Blake Shelton, and Sawyer Brown.

“Redneck Disco” features 10 toe tapping tracks including twang hits Haul Ass, Hard Part of Town, and Long Line of Sinners. Additionally, The Orbisuns cover Johnny Cash's signature classic, Boy Named Sue.

According to the band, a Redneck Disco is “a high octane countrified dance party that just don't wanna stop. Bring your mammas, your grandmas, your sisters, your cousins and your daddies. Ride in on your motorcycles. Drive up in your BMW's or an old Chevy pickup truck. Tie your horse out back or just plain walk. Show up in your Sunday best or come straight from work, but get there early and be ready to fire up the dance floor when the band takes the stage!”

Detroit Music Award Nominees Announced

The Motor City Music Foundation has just released the nominees for the 2008 Detroit Music Awards that covers just about every musical genre that is found in and around the city of Detroit. Now in it’s 17^th year, The DMA’s as they’re called, are the local music industries version of the American Music Awards, paralleling the AMA’s format. Over the past few weeks, Detroit’s local music industry types have been busy putting together the 3 phases of the award process, culminating April 25^th at the Annual DMA Show held at the State Theater (AKA The Fillmore-Detroit). From Country, Hip-Hop, Blues or Rock, whatever musical style you enjoy is well represented during the DMA’s, which not only focus on the “local scene”, but also reaches out to the numerous local music makers who are now moving in and around the National music scene. The Awards are determined by members of the Motor City Music Foundation who submit nominations, and in turn the official ballot is generated from. The DMA’s are not a popularity contest, but in fact is voted on only by local music industry types who must submit and be approved in order to gain membership into the MCMF. Remember that the actual awards shoe is open to the general public by purchasing tickets through the foundation or tickemaster locations. Always a fun time the awards show has been graced with appearances of some of Detroit’s biggest names in music like Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, Anita Baker, and numerous members of the local music scene.
