The Blowout……Day 2!
The Blowout......Day 2!
March brings a sense of change, winter slowly turning towards spring. March also brings with it what is known simply as The Blowout, and a chance to romp through the streets of Hamtramck, changing venues quicker than the weather here in Michigan. Thursday night also brought with it a chance to catch some of our favorite acts beginning with Michael Seger & Everybody's Favorite Band at The Belmont, a band that has been turning heads the past year, and rightfully so with their unique blend of hopping rock that gets everyone dancing, making them "Everyone's Favorite Band". With flair for showmanship, Michael Seger delivers a flawless vocal that is matched with the equally mesmerizing backing vocal of Crystal Star, making for one of the most entertaining sets of the Blowout so far. A quick "change" of venues had Dr2 sliding back into the Dr2 bus for a quick jaunt down the street to the New Dodge Lounge and a date with a band we recently caught performing in Mt Clemens, prompting us to check out their "blowout" performance. Instead Dr2 received their first disappointment of the evening as we chatted our blowout friends, finally realizing there just wasn't anyone from the band in the house setting up the first (for us) "no show" of the evening. Shaking our heads in disbelief, Dr2 had to reload, opting to jump back in the bus and shuttle off to Kelly's Bar, one of our all time favorite Blowout Bars of all time where we have constantly caught some of our most memorable Blowout acts over the years that has included the likes of Helen, 60 Second Crush, and this years most talked about bands from last years Blowout, Lies Unknown (who by the sheer number of inquiries this year, must of made a huge impact last year right here at Kelly's Bar). Unbeknownst to us, as we chatted with another of our blowout friends who runs the sound inside this quaint little darling of a venue, the band we had hoped to catch was nowhere to be found, although we were told they had just been in here eating a "pre-show" meal. A simple "misunderstood", "bad judgment" text later and all hell swirls around the internets! Wow, we were just trying to figure out what happened to the band? We certainly never "informed" the venue of the text from the band, or talked to anyone from the venue or MT about the text, we'll just leave it at that. So, back into the Dr2 bus, down the street, & around the corner to the Painted Lady for a little "Black Irish Lager" with a bit of the Crooks sprinkled in. Painted Lady had a great crowd jammed upfront and the Crooks took the opportunity to hit them with their best before Black Irish bowled us all over with another ferocious assault of rock'n blues. These guys are really starting to gel, the final piece of the puzzle being the recent addition of Tony "Muggs" DeNardo bass. A quick walk down the street had us back at the New Dodge for a night ending set from 60 Second Crush, who literally had the baloney rockin, and gave us our first chance to catch the Crushers newest addtition, guitarist Joe Anthony, who looked (and sounded) right at home. Always a raucous time, the Crushers dropped all our favorites, and obviously all of yours to as the New Dodge turned into an impromptu dancing sing-along on stage, a fitting end to Blowout Day 2!
