89X I'm With The Band V3.0 Semi-Final 3
Wow, what a difference a week makes! After last weeks 89X I'm With The Band V3.0 Semi-Final 2 that saw only one band pack TNT's, this week's Semi-Final 3 was at the complete opposite end of the spectrum! Obviously there are still some bands out there that know how to promote & pack a show with their fans, unlike the ones who don't/can't, then run around and complain about it, (Disclaimer-Dr2 is NOT affiliated in any way with 89X, TNT's, or HRN) maybe they took last week's lesson to heart? Either way, last night is exactly what this contest is all about, hundreds of fans supporting their fav's, as well as the first two finalists on hand PROMOTING their upcoming appearance in the Finals July 23rd!
One Divide started the night out
First up tonight, One Divide may as well be known as the "Band That Could", clawing their way into the Semi Finals with nothing more than a solid sound (#3) and show (#2) during week 11. The amazing part is that this band hails from Whitmore Lake, half way between Ann Arbor & Brighton, MI, yet, somehow managed to entice enough of their fans to take the road trip with them, thus bringing more fans through the door (#1) than some of the local bands the last 2 weeks! Wow, that alone gives them an A+ for effort without even considering their tight sound that had a lot in attendance whispering to each other, "man these guys are good". Finishing last in the on-line and the night's at the door vote didn't seem to faze them as they definitely wowed some new fans including Dr2, hats off to One Divide!
These 14 yr olds in DymondBak brought more fans then some of last weeks bands
Wonder Kids, DymondBak, finished 4th in the on line vote, yet this group of hard rocking 14 year olds brought with them enough fans tonight (#1) that would of given them a hands down victory in virtually any of the earlier rounds of competition. Looking all of 14, but sounding every bit of 20 something, DymondBak brought down the house (#2) with their ferocious blend of rock & roll (written & performed by DymondBak) (#3) that should have a number of bands around town not only taking notice, but scribbling down notes on how you get noticed without playing covers, especially in a 30 minute set. Keep a watchful eye out for these kids as it will be only a matter of time before they are in your face, cranking out the jams in ever increasing sized venues.
Robots In The Garden brought a huge crowd from the westside
Robots In The Garden won week 13 in spectacular fashion, ending that night's set with 30 of their closest fans on stage with them! Finishing third in the on line vote(#4), the Robots built upon that momentum again tonight, putting themselves right in the thick of things, by leading the door vote at set time (#1). Now some bands claim to "have about 35" fans at their show, but we'll let you in on a little secret, these guys brought with them over 35 paying fans all the way from the Westside. (click link to see photos of what "about 35" looks like compared to "over 35" and tell us who tells it like it is). Dropping an earth shattering set of modern, relevant, radio ready rock & roll (#3), Robots In The Garden put on a performance that had the sweat packed room jumping for 30 minutes with what can only be described as one helluva a set (#2)! Check these guys out while you still have a chance to catch them in the small venues!
Lies Unknown demonstrating what it takes to make the finals
Week 1 winners and one of V2.0 Finalists, Lies Unknown went right down to the wire in the on line vote (#4), eventually finishing 2nd by a very small margin to Finding Eden. If that wasn't enough, Lies Unknown actually was trailing the Robots in the door vote, surpassing them in the minutes leading up to their set by having dozens of fans stream through the door giving them an overwhelming win at the final tally that may of neared 75 (#1). Not bad numbers for a young group who have recently underwent a personnel change on Bass just a week or so ago! For this week's lesson, we will refer all to the Dr2 Photo Gallery for a quick look at what a winning rock & roll show should look like during this I'm With The Band V3.0 contest, go ahead and just click a picture labeled Lies Unknown or Hell Rides North from semi #2 and you'll get the "I'm With The Band" part! Catchy hook laden power pop punk (#3) is what Lies Unknown delivers with a vengeance, at one point having the entire crowd singing along (#2) with shouts of "Who-o-oo-a Is Me......!" An undeniable force on the local scene, Lies Unknown exhibits the complete package during their live shows, and with the recent change at bass have only added to the furor that will undoubtedly take this band places most will only dream about. Don't be surprised if you hear their name on your favorite radio station in the near future.....
Finding Eden won the on line vote
Finding Eden won the online vote (#4) giving them the final time slot of tonight's semi final. Hailing from that newly formed musical hotbed, Marysville, MI (Check out Every Avenue) Finding Eden is also a younger band that is pumping out the alternative pop punk, finishing second during week 6 of the competition. Bringing a decent sized (#1) crowd wasn't enough to overcome the previous band's tallies, Finding Eden none the less pushed ahead and delivered a fine set that certainly impressed their fans in attendance. They'll be back at TNT's latter this summer August 1st then again on August 29th for Kevin Sharpe's B'Day celebration, check them out then!
In what was definitely a hot and packed night of rock & roll at TNT's that gave us one of those incredible "can you believe this" feelings as 4 of the 5 band's tonight had a legitimate chance of moving on to the Finals, it came down to the door vote for the decision. In the end, it was Lies Unknown who nosed out Robots in the Garden for the 3rd slot in the Finals of the 89X TNT's I'm With The Band V3.0 followed by DymondBak, Finding Eden, and One Divide, great job by all the groups tonight!
