89X I'm With The Band V3.0 Semi-Final 5
Hot time, summer in the city was the battle cry last light at TNT's where the 5th and final Semi-Final was held to determine the last remaining finalist for the 89X I'm With The Band V3.0 Contest. After a storm ravaged afternoon left us here @ Dr2 wondering if TNT's had
lost power or not, our question was answered as we turned into an already full parking lot, sending us scrambling next door to get the Dr2 Bus parked before it was too late. Wow one of the best attended nights yet, and the temperature inside didn't let you forget how packed it was! With 6 bands on the bill in this last semi-final, things got moving rather quickly with wildcard selection Bury Your Burden hitting the stage around 9pm with another solid set. The second wildcard selection of the night, The Night Away jammed out another awesome set in the precursor of what was to come as the 4 remaining bands were all winners of their respective weeks. Week 6 winner, Stellar Drive, had been
an early on favorite to maybe win the whole thing, but after receiving the lowest on-line vote they went on first out of the winners. Still, Stellar Drive brought in a good sized crowd and delivered another great set featuring an additional guitarist for the first time. Week 12 winners Cody StageFright has been lurking around town in a variety of incarnations, in fact Dr2 & Crew had been digging on these guys in their original line-up of Chris (drums) & Jim (vox-guitars) since stumbling across them up in the Rock Room a couple of years back when Mic Rob (Natives of the New Dawn) was running open mic night. Well, what a transformation in that time, having missed week 12 due to previous commitments (only time we missed during V3.0), Dr2 was shell shocked over the new line-up and funky rock sounds they
produced. Leading the door vote at set time, Cody StageFright put themselves in the running by delivering one of the most "energetic" sets of the night. Another early on favorite, Lithium, was up next, securing their great time slot by finishing second in the online vote. Never ones to back down from a big show, (check out the Stars &
Stripes feature as they opened for Critical Bill & Morris Day on the big stage) Lithium came locked cocked and ready to melt are faces off one more time, Pauly (vox) even brought along his pulpit to preach his dark metal melodies to his rather large congregation of disciples gathered in front! Week 15 winner and on-line vote winner Michael Seger & Everybody's Favorite Band finished out the night in front of another large crowd, virtually setting the stage for a very close door vote between 3 bands.
An extremely talented group, which features Chrystal Starr on keys, a talent to be recognized on her own, supplying vocals for a number of bands including Alyssa Simons, Michael Seger & EVB delivered a mesmerizing set of upbeat almost funky dance type beats, much to the pleasure of their fans now gathered up front. But, in maybe the closest overall night during the contest, it was Cody StageFright who edged out Lithium for the final slot in the 89X I'm With The Band V3.0 Finals to be held July 23rd over at TNT's!
