We Came As Romans Beat Out Cooper
Detroit, MI- No doubt Detroit City is a musical hotbed for just about any genre in today’s music world. What makes it even more incredible is when that single city maintains a strangle hold on the belle weather barometer of record sales called the Billboard 200. This week features Troy, Michigan’s own, We Came as Romans, sophomore album, “Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be”, debuting at number 20 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart, narrowly beating out another Detroit native Alice Cooper, whose latest album “Welcome 2 My Nightmare” debuted at 21. Not too bad for a group of High School friends who are a mere 5 yrs removed from the halls of Troy High School.
It still amazes us that today there are so many nay-sayers around the scene that belittle our music scene, calling it dead, suffocating, and going as far as saying they’re moving to ________ (insert city of your choice). Can’t help but find it hilarious that the very scene these people are squawking about, still manages to pump out a bevy of new artists that are landing either near the top of the charts, or are finding themselves sitting right next to Detroit’s established artist at the top of the charts. Are you all shaking your head? Do you actually follow what your fellow area artists are achieving outside of our fabulous state, or are you too busy talking behind one another’s backs still? Well let’s take a quick & shallow look at what’s been going on with some of our fine artists over the past year or so. We obviously have Kid Rock hitting number 5 late last year, Eminem has hit number one twice this year with 2 albums, 2 groups, along with Royce da 5’9”. There’s been Mike Posner landing at #4, Big Sean at #3, Insane Clown Posse laughing there way to #4, Black Dahlia Murder chiming in at #31, hell you could throw Cooper’s recent #22 as well as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ debut at #5, but you get the point, Detroit does rock the world.
