Top Dog/Atlantic Records recording artist Ty Stone appears to be on the brink of a career (and life) changing couple months after years of toiling around in search of that ever elusive American Dream of “The Big Time”. Discovered by and signed too Kid Rock’s Top Dog Records, Ty Stone is poised to release his forthcoming album on Atlantic Records this spring/early summer, but in the meantime, his first single from the album is now out and available via iTunes. Fresh off a late 2010 Tour with label mate Uncle Kracker, Ty has been gaining notoriety with each show he plays across the USA. In a nod from the Top Dog himself, Ty was hand picked to open Kid Rock’s 40th Birthday Party last weekend at Ford Field in front of 60,000 fans who packed the stadium, a gig that undoubtedly any artist in the world would have jumped at. It’s been an amazing trip for our good friend, who actually performed for us back in early ’09 during one of our Dr2 Showcases, so as we headed Downtown last night to catch the guys at The Park Bar, we took a moment to get a glimpse from the inside of what it was like to perform before 60,000 people, and of course what life on the road is like when touring with the big boys. “Man, I’m not gonna kid you, it was sa-weeeet!” exclaimed Ty, referring to the feeling of being on that huge stage. “Yea, I was nervous, but when we opened with American Style, my newest single, it all went away” Stone continued. Guitarist Christian Drahiem chimed in with “it was nothing short of surreal, looking out at all those people listening to us play was a dream comes true”. We asked Draheim what is was like to be back stage at such a monumental event, “amazing. I actually got to meet Sheryl Crow! To get to hang out with such talented artists was amazing. You should of seen the spread they had too, from finger food to lobster to cases of Jim Beam, it was beyond belief! The craziest thing is we’re told it’s like this every night on the road.”
In an almost Bob Seger-ish moment, Ty Stone and The Truth went from playing in front 60,000 fans on Saturday night to a few hundred on Wednesday night, and we couldn’t be any happier for Ty, as we’ve been a huge fan of his for quite some time now. We here at Dr2 love nothing more than to see our home grown musicians get a chance at the “Big Time”, and absolutely go nuts when they actually do pop, and the vibe that was filling the Park Bar tonight felt awful familiar…….
