The Emerald Lives!
The Emerald Theater Lives!
After years of being one of Mt Clemens' hottest destinations, events at The Emerald Theater had been tapering off to a drip over the past couple years with only a few shows being hosted inside this historic building that opened in 1921 as the Macomb Theater. Designed by famed architect C. Howard Crane, who also built Detroit's State Theater, Fox Theater, & even New York's Radio City Hall, the venue was once a thriving theater that boasted the hottest live concerts as well as their infamous "Club Nights". The Emerald, as it is now known, appeared headed into disrepair and looked as if it were on the verge of closing for good. Ah, but we here at Dr2 have just been informed that the Emerald has been taken off life-support with a new infusion of energy. Ownership has changed! Mt Clemens' own, and current owner of The Hayloft, Michael Scott has moved in. Scott, who has just bought out previous owner Joe Nieporte, will now team with the remaining owner Ron Masters to form a formidable new tandem that will undoubtedly bring new life to this once illustrious downtown Mt Clemens venue. "We obviously need to get in there and get some issues addressed, but then our goal will be to get the concerts rolling again" said Scott during a recent visit to his ever-popular Hayloft Concert Venue located mere blocks down the street from The Emerald. "I'm a hands on owner, so I'll be spending a lot of time getting to know the staff, finding out what needs improving", continued Scott. Dr2 has spent their fair share of nights inside the venue, and were generally concerned over the future of this magnificent structure, but with Scott taking over the daily operations of the facility, we see nothing but a spectacular future as Scott works his magic to turn the former Macomb Theater, into one of the area's prominent concert theaters that could rival Pontiac's Crofoot & Clutch Cargo's or even Detroit's Majestic Theater or St Andrews Hall! Detroit Rock Review is nothing short of ecstatic over the possibilities that this new venture will bring to the local music scene, ourselves included, as it will open up a whole new opportunity to showcase some of Detroit's finest talent alongside the nation's best touring acts.
