You Won't Get This From Us!

It’s always interesting to read Music Reviews, hey that’s why we here at Dr2 do it. Not only is it interesting to investigate, listen, and write a CD or Live Show Review, we ENJOY it. Imagine that. Most of you already know that Dr2 is at the shows we write about, heck we probably bug the hell out of ya’all with questions. Imagine for a second that you read a review we wrote and you not remembering us being there. Could raise some questions right? And then there are all those CD’s that are sent to us by the dozen. Do you really think that we could possibly write a review on each and everyone of them? Well my friends, as we’ve stated to all who have sent us a CD, the answer is no we don’t. But we also tell everyone that does send us a CD that Dr2 can guarantee we will LISTEN to each and every CD that is sent to us. So it goes with out saying that if we write a review, then ALL of us here at Detroit Rock Review have actually listened to the ENTIRE disc. Not once, not twice, but as many times as it takes to fully understand the lyrics, music, motivation etc for each song on that disc. Heck, we’ve been told by many after one of our Dr2 Views that “man, you guys really do listen to the disc!” Yes we do, and we’re damn proud of it! So it comes with great pleasure to say that not everyone does, just take this recent AP story out of New York from none other than one of the largest rag mags out there today, MAXIM. Apparently they take their music a little to UN-seriously. Oh yeah, we did swipe the picture of Avril from their website, screw them, they probably don’t read the whole story anyway, besides, she’s hot. The following is the story as it appeared across the web earlier today-

"New York- Maxim magazine has apologized for publishing a negative review of the Black Crowes' new album by a writer who hadn't listened to the whole CD.The review in Maxim's March issue gives the Crowes' "Warpaint" a rating of two-and-a-half stars out of five. The band posted an exasperated statement on its Web site last week saying the Maxim writer hadn't heard the entire album because advance copies weren't available. The Crowes' manager, Pete Angelus, said the magazine explained that its review was an "educated guess."Maxim editorial director James Kaminsky responded Tuesday with this statement: "It is Maxim's editorial policy to assign star ratings only to those albums that have been heard in their entirety. Unfortunately, that policy was not followed in the March 2008 issue of our magazine and we apologize to our readers."A spokeswoman for the magazine contacted by The Associated Press declined to say whether the writer would face disciplinary action."Warpaint," the Black Crowes' first album in seven years, is set for release March 4. The blues-rock group, fronted by Chris Robinson, has released only one song from the disc, "Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution."The band's hits include "Hard to Handle" and "She Talks to Angels.""

Radiocraft in Crave Magazine

On another similar note, we despise outsiders from dissing on one of our bands, even if 90% of the review is awesome. But when someone has the slight of hand to actually refer to Detroit as, “the City made famous by a white rapper named after a beloved candy”, we know something isn’t right. Hmm, must be referring to Eminem, who by the way did NOT make Detroit famous(8 Mile Rd , yes), nor is he named after a frickin candy. Eminem wanted to use their trademark and was denied, but it had nothing to do with the candy, you see his name is Marshall Mathers III. Get it, M & M? Hello lady, have you not ever heard of Aretha, Stevie, Kid, Iggy, Fred, Jimmy, Mitch, Madonna, Bob, Ted, Smokey, Anita, Alice, Meg and oh yea fuck Jack. "Kevin Breslin and Ron Alcini are the duo behind the drums & guitars...."? Ah excuse me, but shouldn't Chris Castro be mentioned here since HE IS the drummer? Totally an insane final paragraph to an otherwise awesome review, and it ruins the entire review for me, and this all from a mag based in Vancover, Washington? WTF is up with that, I thought Vancouver was in Canada! Oh well. We love Radiocraft, and Crave Magazine has a 90% great review of their latest “Catch Your Death” , too bad the reviewer didn’t do ALL her homework. Check it here.
