Dr2 VIEW: “And it’s making me wonder, how many times, we can go round” an appropriate sentiment when we keep pushing repeat, over & over again! A gem of a Disc, “Making Me Wonder”, from Detroit’s own Lime Regal, has made Dr2 sit back and take notice as we’ve been spinning this Disc ever since it arrived in the mail. A mix of classic & easy listening “pop rock”, “Making Me Wonder” catches your ear and never loses your attention; the track’s indefinitely spinning inside your head as you’re heading home from work. Recorded at Rust Belt Studios, Lime Regal took the inside track; producing and engineering the disc themselves while Steve Stetson (drums) arranged the “after hour” recording sessions at the studio. Settling on a 6 song EP, Lime Regal has accomplished what many fail at with twice as many songs, that is to record an exceptionally well-produced and packaged CD that is shelf ready! From the opening track, Lime Regal delivers more hooks than Muhammad Ali, daring you to roll down the window with their rock and roll anthem 100 MPH, a wildly infectious tune that should be spinning nationwide. The title track, Making Me Wonder, written about Detroit, demonstrates Lime Regal’s ability to write relevant songs with lyrics like “driving around, no homes, just houses, half of them empty inside….” and which showcases Nathan Abramson’s distinct vocals with a range not unlike that of Jon Anderson, embellishing an almost “Yes” like sound. The defining track of the album, Making Me Wonder, is the obvious choice for a lead off single, and is worthy of airtime now! Slowing it done on Four Leaf Clover, Abramson & Lime Regal turn to an almost McCartney-like sound reminiscent of the “Wings” era where Ross Trinkaus drops the electric guitar for an acoustic, allowing the melodies to flow. Closing out this spectacular EP is Coming Back, an up tempo track featuring a catchy chorus that’ll sure to be swirling in your head long after the moment you last heard it. A well rounded effort, some members have branched out even further as Stetson, also the drummer for Uncle Kracker’s touring band, and fellow band mate Brian Carney (bass), have recently hooked up with Mr. Wax & Reverend Jim to join their fantastic band out of Ann Arbor called The Bloids. The Bloids, by the way will be releasing their single, Breakdown Calling, to the national radio airwaves beginning in the Pacific Northwest on February 1st. With Lime Regal, we here at Dr2 expect big things from this line-up, as apparently the guys have been busy working on, and already have, some new material streaming on their MySpace page that lends a bit of a harder edge to their sound!
