89X I'm With The Band V3.0 Semi-Final 3

Wow, what a difference a week makes! After last weeks 89X I'm With The Band V3.0 Semi-Final 2 that saw only one band pack TNT's, this week's Semi-Final 3 was at the complete opposite end of the spectrum! Obviously there are still some bands out there that know how to promote & pack a show with their fans, unlike the ones who don't/can't, then run around and complain about it, (Disclaimer-Dr2 is NOT affiliated in any way with 89X, TNT's, or HRN) maybe they took last week's lesson to heart? Either way, last night is exactly what this contest is all about, hundreds of fans supporting their fav's, as well as the first two finalists on hand PROMOTING their upcoming appearance in the Finals July 23rd!

Image
One Divide started the night out
First up tonight, One Divide may as well be known as the "Band That Could", clawing their way into the Semi Finals with nothing more than a solid sound (#3) and show (#2) during week 11. The amazing part is that this band hails from Whitmore Lake, half way between Ann Arbor & Brighton, MI, yet, somehow managed to entice enough of their fans to take the road trip with them, thus bringing more fans through the door (#1) than some of the local bands the last 2 weeks! Wow, that alone gives them an A+ for effort without even considering their tight sound that had a lot in attendance whispering to each other, "man these guys are good". Finishing last in the on-line and the night's at the door vote didn't seem to faze them as they definitely wowed some new fans including Dr2, hats off to One Divide!

Image
These 14 yr olds in DymondBak brought more fans then some of last weeks bands
Wonder Kids, DymondBak, finished 4th in the on line vote, yet this group of hard rocking 14 year olds brought with them enough fans tonight (#1) that would of given them a hands down victory in virtually any of the earlier rounds of competition. Looking all of 14, but sounding every bit of 20 something, DymondBak brought down the house (#2) with their ferocious blend of rock & roll (written & performed by DymondBak) (#3) that should have a number of bands around town not only taking notice, but scribbling down notes on how you get noticed without playing covers, especially in a 30 minute set. Keep a watchful eye out for these kids as it will be only a matter of time before they are in your face, cranking out the jams in ever increasing sized venues.

Image
Robots In The Garden brought a huge crowd from the westside
Robots In The Garden won week 13 in spectacular fashion, ending that night's set with 30 of their closest fans on stage with them! Finishing third in the on line vote(#4), the Robots built upon that momentum again tonight, putting themselves right in the thick of things, by leading the door vote at set time (#1). Now some bands claim to "have about 35" fans at their show, but we'll let you in on a little secret, these guys brought with them over 35 paying fans all the way from the Westside. (click link to see photos of what "about 35" looks like compared to "over 35" and tell us who tells it like it is). Dropping an earth shattering set of modern, relevant, radio ready rock & roll (#3), Robots In The Garden put on a performance that had the sweat packed room jumping for 30 minutes with what can only be described as one helluva a set (#2)! Check these guys out while you still have a chance to catch them in the small venues!

Image
Lies Unknown demonstrating what it takes to make the finals
Week 1 winners and one of V2.0 Finalists, Lies Unknown went right down to the wire in the on line vote (#4), eventually finishing 2nd by a very small margin to Finding Eden. If that wasn't enough, Lies Unknown actually was trailing the Robots in the door vote, surpassing them in the minutes leading up to their set by having dozens of fans stream through the door giving them an overwhelming win at the final tally that may of neared 75 (#1). Not bad numbers for a young group who have recently underwent a personnel change on Bass just a week or so ago! For this week's lesson, we will refer all to the Dr2 Photo Gallery for a quick look at what a winning rock & roll show should look like during this I'm With The Band V3.0 contest, go ahead and just click a picture labeled Lies Unknown or Hell Rides North from semi #2 and you'll get the "I'm With The Band" part! Catchy hook laden power pop punk (#3) is what Lies Unknown delivers with a vengeance, at one point having the entire crowd singing along (#2) with shouts of "Who-o-oo-a Is Me......!" An undeniable force on the local scene, Lies Unknown exhibits the complete package during their live shows, and with the recent change at bass have only added to the furor that will undoubtedly take this band places most will only dream about. Don't be surprised if you hear their name on your favorite radio station in the near future.....

Finding Eden won the on line vote
Finding Eden won the online vote (#4) giving them the final time slot of tonight's semi final. Hailing from that newly formed musical hotbed, Marysville, MI (Check out Every Avenue) Finding Eden is also a younger band that is pumping out the alternative pop punk, finishing second during week 6 of the competition. Bringing a decent sized (#1) crowd wasn't enough to overcome the previous band's tallies, Finding Eden none the less pushed ahead and delivered a fine set that certainly impressed their fans in attendance. They'll be back at TNT's latter this summer August 1st then again on August 29th for Kevin Sharpe's B'Day celebration, check them out then!

In what was definitely a hot and packed night of rock & roll at TNT's that gave us one of those incredible "can you believe this" feelings as 4 of the 5 band's tonight had a legitimate chance of moving on to the Finals, it came down to the door vote for the decision. In the end, it was Lies Unknown who nosed out Robots in the Garden for the 3rd slot in the Finals of the 89X TNT's I'm With The Band V3.0 followed by DymondBak, Finding Eden, and One Divide, great job by all the groups tonight!

Be at TNT's this Thursday night June 18th when the 89X I'm With The Band V3.0 resumes with the 4th Semi-Final that is shaping up to be one of the hottest nights of these semi's when week 14 winner The Pilz, week 2 winners Core Effect, week 4 runner ups The Injured List, wildcard week winners Inmindzi, week 9 runner ups Red Leader, & week 15 wildcard Steve Who? go head to head on stage, on-line voting has begun right here!

Be sure to check out all the photos from this event & more over in the Dr2 Photo Gallery then be sure to catch Hell Rides North, Half Light Music and Lies Unknown along with the other 2 finalist TBD on July 23rd for the Finals of 89X's I'm With The Band V3.0 at TNT's, get there early as this place will be packed all the way to the parking lot! 89X I’m With The Band V3.0 Semi-Final 2

89X I'm With The Band V3.0 Semi-Final 2

Things certainly have heated up as the 89X I'm With The Band V3.0 has sped into the second of 5 semi-finals this past Thursday night over at TNT's in Clinton Twp. This is the point in the contest where every little thing means a great big deal to all the bands competing for that $10,000 first prize money, and more times than not, those "little" things add up to disaster for all but the winner of the night who moves on into the Finals that will be held right here at TNT's on July 23rd. Out of over 80 bands who've signed up and competed in the contest, there were only 25 left standing at the beginning of the Semi-Finals. So that would suggest that these bands are winners already, win or lose, even if some of these bands leave you scratching your head as to why they're still in the Semi's. This week's SF Round featured (in order of online vote results, last goes first) XXX Car Ride, Mystery Key, Overtow (actually won the online vote with like 1,200 votes???), Hell Rides North, and The Night Away giving the night a definitive harder edge.

Image
XXX Car Ride Heats Up TNT's
First up tonight was the Industrial / Electronica Rock (How's That for a combination) Band XXX Car Ride, who had finished last in the online voting. XXX Car Ride definitely screams A LOT which became quite unbearable at times during the first half of their set. It wasn't until they jumped on their more electronica (and of course the XXX Car Ride Strippers Dancers) based style of music before they offered up much of a beat/melody to any of their music leading us to conclude they should focus more on the latter. We look forward to this band developing their melodies and song structure, much like they showed in the latter half of the set, absolutely a band we will keep an eye on in the future!

Image
Mystery Key Thought They Should Of Won- Really?
Finishing second to last in the online voting was Mystery Key, who did not fare any better at the door, or on stage. Aside from having an attractive new lead singer straight from the Macombers, Mystery Key is exactly that, a mystery in any key. The mystery is why did they enter this contest, and exactly how did they end up in the Semi-Finals when they didn't win a 4 band night during weak 4 that had Dr2 wondering if the contest was canceled that night? Our question to them is "Have you ever listened to 89X!!" Their style and delivery do not fit with anything going on there. This band can probably make a good living as a cover band, playing to an over-40 crowd, but not the crowd that packs TNT's every Thursday night! The songs were generic, with little variety and absent of any resemblance of a hook, (you know, that thing that makes you want to sing along) offering up one of the most forgettable performances yet in any round. In Fact, having been witness to 15 of the 16 preliminary rounds, the wildcard round (17) and now 2 semi-finals (18 & 19), Dr2 wonders exactly what it was that makes them believe they deserve a spot in the finals? If you, or in this case, the entire band, appears to be as bored as they looked with their own un-original, karaoke-ish music, how on earth are we, or the very small group of fans that bothered to show up, be anything but bored ourselves?

Let us digress for a moment, it amazes us that bands in this contest have NO idea what it is they need to do in order to win, so we'll spell it out for you: 1- Bring YOUR fans to YOUR show (40% of total vote), you know the ones who are willing to pay the $10 bucks to see your band because they LOVE your music. If you don't do this then we can only assume that NO ONE enjoys or even likes your music. 2- Put on the performance of your life (20% of total vote), the kind that has everyone watching your every move. (Hint- if you don't do this, then you can forget about #1) 3- Sound (30% of total vote). You have to sound good no matter what genre music you play. Boring, off key, hook-less, mish-mashed music will have everyone running for the door, including us! (Hint #2 - if you do not sound good, forget about #1). Lastly, if you can do either #2 or #3, then you will do good at #1 which then means you'll do good at #4- Online Vote (10%). Get your fans to vote for you each and every day so that you will be rewarded one of the "better" time slots, you know, the ones when the place is packed because all the good bands that succeeded in #1, #2, & #3 are playing? Whichever Band receives the highest percentage of the vote WINS! If you don't get the point, then just stay mute and quit blaming all of your inadequacies on other people, jeez! Read the OFFICIAL RULES HERE!

Image
Overtow Won The Online Vote
On-Line vote winners Overtow managed to secure the third slot, but for a band that received almost 1,200 votes (by far one of thee largest of the contest), Dr2 wonders where all their fans were tonight? Regardless, Overtow can always be counted on to give a high-energy, performance, and tonight was no different. They definitely gave it everything, careening through some of their best songs. But, and not to beat a topic to death, it is hard to be your best and take a competition like this without a screaming horde of fans in front of the stage (see Hell Rides North). It is that connection with an adoring audience that makes a good set, which this was, into a memorable "event". With some catchy hooks and strong fretwork, Overtow definitely showed that they deserved to be in the semi's.

Image
Hell Rides North Won The Night!
Door Vote winners, Hell Rides North certainly sharpened their pencils for this lesson, squashing their competition by bringing more of THEIR fans through the door (#1) than the other 4 bands COMBINED! What an extraordinary sight to see, the entire room from stage to tables was packed shoulder to shoulder with their fans, which by the way paid the $10 each just to see these guys! With an explosive entrance, Hell Rides North took to the stage amidst a barrage of brain-melting, ear-shattering, adoration from their fans and unleashed a set that was the epitome of what I'm With The Band V3.0 is all about, hot, sweaty, loud, and ferocious music that made you feel like you were main floor at Cobo Arena, not TNT's!! Dropping hook-laden, angst-soaked, song after song, HRN not only delivered the sound (#3), but their stage presence was amazing! We were left wondering if/when their drummer, DMF, with his explosive assault, was going to smash his drum kit to pieces! Slade (vox) had the crowd at his mercy, delivering each song with an intense ferocity, matched by the stage-roving, near-riot inciting performance of both Matt & Vince! Hell Rides North left no doubt in anyone's mind who ruled the night, turning the room into a giant, sweat-soaked, love fest(#2)!

Image
The Night Away Performs During The Semi-Finals
The Night Away had one tough act to follow, but by finishing second in the online vote gave themselves the final slot of the night, AND they brought a respectable crowd with them, good enough for another 2nd place finish with the door vote. Not sure what happened, but during week 16 these guys had a HUGE crowd come out and support. A younger group with room to grow, The Night Away flourished on stage while the girls that were there all gathered up front for a late night dance party in support of their favorite band. Keep an eye on these guys.....

When it was all said and done, Hell Rides North was announced as the winner for week two of the Semi-Finals in a complete sweep of the night's voting rounds, followed by The Night Away, Overtow, XXX Car Ride and then Mystery Key. Be at TNT's this Thursday night when the 89X I'm With The Band V3.0 resumes with the 3rd Semi-Final featuring week 1 winner Lies Unknown, week 6 runner up Finding Eden, week 13 winner Robots In The Garden, week 11 runner ups DymondBak & One Divide!

Also, Catch Hell Rides North, Half Light Music along with the other finalist TBD July 23rd for the Finals of 89X's I'm With The Band V3.0 at TNT's, get there early as this place will be packed all the way to the parking lot! DetroitRockReview.com, The Only Place For Local Music News & Reviews!

Lithium to Open For Critical Bill - Morris Day @ Stars & Stripes Fest

Lithium to Open For Critical Bill/Morris Day @ Stars & Stripes Fest

Local heavy rockers, Lithium, will be opening up for Critical Bill along with Morris Day & The Time on that big National Stage during this year's Stars & Stripes Festival on June 26th in Mt Clemens after winning the Hayloft's "Battle Of The Bands" last Friday night. In a highly contested contest, the Hayloft packed in the fans of Flophouse, Down For Now, Stellar Drive and Lithium for this unique opportunity for some major exposure during the vastly successful festival that draws over 300,000 people to the streets of Mt Clemens over a three day period.

Image
Down For Now rocking the Hayloft
One of the biggest surprises came early on when Dr2, after many an invite, finally got their chance to see Down For Now, a straight up rock & roll band that definitely filled the Loft with a huge, almost grunge throwback sound, that had us wondering why we hadn't run into this group earlier. Lead singer Mike has that effortless vocal that flows just above the rhythm section, allowing the huge riffs of lead guitarist Pete to bring out the melodic thunder that had everyone up front dancing! Stellar Drive followed with yet another in a string of awesome sets over the past few months.

Image
Stellar Drive recently released their debut album
With their Debut Release in hand and a rather large posse of supporters in tow, Stellar Drive was out to grab that opening slot for themselves tonight. Featuring Dylan McCarty on drums, Stellar Drive came out firing on all cylinders as they unleashed their blend of powerful arena rock that filled the front of the stage with fist pumping fans! These guys have come a long way in just over the year they've been together, drawing big crowds at every venue they play while adding to a fan base that grows day by day, Stellar Drive brought their A-Game tonight, even previewed a new song that rocked the crowd to a frenzy. Keep an eye on these guys as their star rises to the stellar heavens!

Image
Lithium's grand entrance returns!
Bringing back their infamous entrance from their February CD Release Party, Lithium once again appeared from behind that huge white drape of a curtain that allowed for a full silhouette of the band that prominently featured the spiked antics of lead singer Pauly, before dropping to the stage revealing the full flurry of what Lithium is, an addicting drug rock & roll show in all of its finest debauchery! From the onset of their set, it was apparent that Lithium was here to win this thing, bringing with them the largest crowd of the night, and by all means putting on one of thee most energetic stage shows we've seen, engulfing everything that Detroit Rock represents. Apparently the judges heard them loud and clear as Lithium was named the winner of that opening slot and a chance to perform in front of thousands of (hopefully) new fans!

Don't forget that all these bands and more will be at the Hayloft the entire Stars & Stripes Weekend when The Hayloft takes over the abandon Stars & Stripes "Local Music" stages with their own 100% Michigan Made Music Stages inside and outside stages featuring the very best of what we all know is the musical hotbed of the world! Check out all these bands in the Dr2 Links and the photos from the night are in the Dr2 Photo Gallery, then head on over to the Dr2 MySpace Page where you'll find them all in our "Top Friends". Be sure to check back soon for a complete schedule of bands that will be appearing June 25th & 26th only at The Hayloft! DetroitRockReview.com - The Only Place For Local Music News & Reviews!

Facture rocked their set!
The $10,000 "I'm With The Band" V3.0 contest moved closer to crowning a winner with the first of 5 Semi Final Rounds last Thursday over at TNT's in Clinton Twp in front of an exceptionally large crowd gathered to cheer on their favorite group. After a week long online voting poll that is used to determine set order (least amount of votes goes on first with the winner going on last), Seven Year Reign brought in the most votes, giving them the final slot of the night. First up on the stage was week 10 winner
Image
Matt Austin Band was an early favorite
Facture, this hard hitting eastside band just may have had the best sound of the night, coming out with a bombastic beat that was definitely tight & clean, but finishing last in the online & door vote had them behind from the start. The Matt Austin Band, winners of week 5, hit the stage next to a roaring crowd that had MAB right in the thick of things in what will be a tightly contested door vote.
Image
Odayin had a good sized crowd
After a shaky start, MAB quickly found it's footing amongst his screaming fans and delivered one of the best performances of the night. In the middle of the pack was week 4 winner Odayin, featuring Vinnie Dombrowski's (Sponge, Crud, Orbitsons) son Steve on guitar, dual bass players, and dual lead singers. Odayin's door vote had them right in the middle of things, in fact neck to neck with the Matt Austin Band in the door vote up to now, so Odayin needed to deliver a knockout performance to have a chance to move ahead but came up little short tonight. Half Light Music, week 1's runner-up, came on strong to finish 2nd in the online voting and kept right on going, throwing themselves into what was now a 3 way battle for that door vote! Half Light Music didn't stop there either, turning in the hottest sounding set of the night along with a spectacular show, moving them into the stop stop with only one band left to go,
Image
Half Light Music won the night
week 3's winner Seven Year Reign. Having won the on-line vote, you would think Seven Year Reign would be right in there with the door vote but ended up with a lackluster 4th place finish, which lead to a lackluster performance and eliminated any chance to capture one
Image
Seven Year Reign won the online vote
of those coveted spots in the finals on July 25th at TNT's Bar. An extremely close call at the door coupled with an extremely close night on the stage lead to a lot of sharp pencils being broke by the judges tonight, but after the final tally was in, Half Light Music walks away with the win and will continue on towards that larger than life size check for $10,000, courtesy of TNT's! Semi-Final 2, featuring Hell Rides North, Overtow, XXX Car Ride, Flashpoint & Mystery Key, this Thursday, on line voting has begun, so click, vote, and follow up by getting out to the show and vote for your favorite at the door! DetroitRockReview.com, The Only Place For Local Music News & Reviews!

Rock'n & Roll'n Down The Detroit River!

Sold Out Crowd for ShipRocked aboard the Detroit Princess
In what may have been one of thee busiest Saturday nights Dr2 has seen in in the D for an awful long time, there was no question where the hottest party of the night was. With the Hoedown, Tigers, and Ty Stone in town to release his Atlantic / Top Dog Records debut "Four On The Floor", the streets of Detroit were buzzing with excitement, clogging virtually every street with people and cars, wish it would stay like this every weekend! Spending the better part of a half an hour looking for a parking spot (and believe us, we consider ourselves well versed on Detroit parking), we finally scored one of those highly coveted, free, as in no charge, parking spots at Randolph and Brush near one of our favorite "late night" watering holes The Well (a great spot for a very late night cocktail....). Dropped by the Eclipz Lounge for a couple pre-party brews before hopping on that god awful People Shaker to make our way down to the riverfront. Detroit's own Josh Gracin was on stage in Hart Plaza for the Hoedown, must of been a good one judging by the sounds and screams!
Image
Ty Stone was recently resigned to Atlantic / Top Dog Records
But the biggest surprise was saved for our arrival at the Detroit Princess, approaching the dock, we were met with a line 4 wide that stretched the length of a football field! Fortunately for us, we were able to do one of our quick shuttle steps up the ramp before anyone else realized that the gates had opened. Once inside we found our way to the wide open 3rd deck where the Ty Stone EP Release Party, Shiprocked, would be going down, what an enormous space, wide open, no tables, just one big ass room to accommodate the 800+ people that Detroit's ultimate party planners, On The Rocks, Detroit were expecting. During the 1 ½ hours it took to get the Princess loaded, Frankie D'Angelo hit the stage after a brief introduction by our own Dr2 Don! With the ship finally loaded, the Captain sounded one long blast signaling departure for our midnight rock & roll cruise on the Detroit River as Robin Horlock performed a multitude of songs off his recent release Music.. Having 800

Ty Stone Rocking The Boat!
some people on one floor of a riverboat is quite the sight, but tonight's headlining act, Ty Stone, has grown accustomed to large crowds after hitting the road back in '06 to open for Kid Rock on his "Live Trucker" tour that panned out across the country for 40 dates, giving Stone all the confidence he needs to blow away a large crowd. And blow away he did. With his newly re-gathered band, The Truth, put together by Matt Van (Uncle Kracker, Mustard Plug) on Bass and consisting of Bill Reedy and Matt D'mits on guitar along with Uncle Kracker's drummer Steve Stetson, Ty Stone took to the stage, opening with Line of Blood which segued into Dr2's favorite Downriver, bringing a mass of loud drunken singing "sailors" along for a whirlwind of a ride! Ty's music has a way of resonating with his fans, and that feeling was abundant tonight as that hometown pride swept across the boat, leaving the room exhausted from the energy Ty poured into his set. Amazing. Finishing out the night was former Rockstar:INXS competitor Brandon Calhoon who brought out the full band for this special night, rocking the boat himself as the Detroit Princess made its final approach back to the docks. Dr2 Don doing the MC Thing
What a great night of music last Saturday night over at the Hayloft where Dr2 held it's first "Dr2 Music Showcase" with Lies Unknown, Herd, Beggars, and The Vamps along with a very special guest, Atlantic Recording Artist Ty Stone who rocked the stage with Lies Unknown! From the beautiful weather outdoors to the smoking hot bands indoors, Dr2 was ready to throw down to some Michigan Made Music, and throw down we did! Opening up the

The Vamps brought The D to Da Clem
night was the Feme-Powered Blues of The Vamps, a trio of fine ladies featuring Rebecca Lynn (vox), Molly Jean (bass, vox), Robin (guitar, vox) and backed by Mike on the drums, that delivered a mesmerizing set that had even Justin Alexander of Lies Unknown glued to the stage! Bringing The D to Da Clem, The Vamps brought a 10 song set list that had The Hayloft on its feet, opening up with Trouble, a hard edged blues rocker that brought all the stragglers out of the front bar. Definitely an all out thrown down, Rebecca Lynn delivers high energy vocals that were spot on, showing of her ability on, and at one point off the stage during what we thought was a gem of a tune called All U Got, which hopefully will be on the upcoming disc the announced they were working on!

Beggars brought the Party To The People!
The Beggars have been a staple on the Detroit/Hamtramck scene for a few years now, having toured across the country, hitting up small college towns from coast to coast, but tonight was their first night on the stage of The Hayloft. Fronted by the acrobatic Steven Tuthil, and backed by one of the most diverse rhythm sections in town, featuring Jeremy "Face Frehley" (bass), Rod "Pool Party" Jones (sax), Johnny "Hair" (guitar), as well as the beat miester himself Jo-Jo Bangs (drums), the Beggars had everyone singing along even though we know most of you had never heard the songs before! In Fact, Dr2 seen a whole bunch of ya throwing out the chop, chop, chop during the fun inspiring Sleepaway Camp! Tuthil spent much of his time frolicking across the stage, rolling and throwing himself, as well as his mic, to the stage, much to the delight of the crowd who by now were all up front to see the mad antics first hand. Dropping a 40 minute set, the Beggars rolled through all of Dr2's favorites including Thieves, Same Costume as Me, and even brought down the house with the over the top, Stop, Drop, Rock & Roll! Fabulous, amazing and definitely one hell of an entertaining rock & roll group! Check these guys out this weekend down in Hamtramck's legendary Belmont!

HERD traveled 200 miles to play the Dr2 Showcase
The third band we brought in for this Showcase didn't come from The D, Da Clem, or Southeast Michigan at all; instead, this band of brothers hopped in their wheels and drove nearly 200 miles one way from Houghton Lake, MI just to perform in the Dr2 Showcase! Kick starting their set with the title track off their Debut EP Obscenery, Dr2's favorite, Herd delivered another great set of their unique blend of rock & roll that blows us away every time we see them. Lead by the charismatic Jeremiah Cooley (vox), Herd keeps it "All in the Family" with Mike Cooley (guitar, keys. vox), Josh Cooley (drummist), Jason Cooley (guitar), and the lone non "blood" brother Scott Kraig on bass. Playing The Hayloft for the first time also, Herd took the opportunity to debut a few new songs for us here at Dr2 with Last Breakfast, and the incredibly infectious Siamese Centipede, can't wait to hear these tracks laid down in the studio! Catch them next week up at the Leelanau Sands Casino where they'll be playing in the finals of the "Rock Your Way To The Top" contest where the winner will receive recording time plus $2,000 in cash!

MetroTimes recently called Lies Unknown "the best new rock band in Detroit"
Finishing out the night was Lies Unknown, the band Metro Times recently dubbed "the best new rock band in Detroit". A four piece power, punk, pop band lead by the vocally brilliant Justin Alexander, Lies Unknown has one of thee best rhythm sections around with Jamie Allen on guitar, Sidney on bass and Enrique "Rico" on the kit. Their live show has become quite the event around town lately and tonight they thrilled us all once again with their distinctive blend of goodtime rock & roll, leading off with Go, Go, You Know before bringing out that infamous "street sign" signaling they're about to take us all for a ride down historic Woodward Avenue! Thee highlight of the night was at about the halfway point of the set when Dr2 Don jumped up

Well we are officially halfway through Version 3.0 of the 89X $10,000 I'm With The Band Contest put on by TNT's over in Clinton Twp, and it still looks like a wide open affair with no clear cut leader pushing to the front of the heap! Dr2 must say that if YOUR band hasn't signed up yet for this FREE battle (no tix sales, no upfront cost, no nada!), then you're making a huge mistake as this is shaping up to be anyone's game! I mean $10,000 from TNT's & Studio Time from Metro Recording Studios are up for grabs, what are you waiting for????

DMF of Hell Rides North just may be one of the best!
Find out how to sign up right HERE! Week 7 was a Monster of a week that saw local Heavy Metal artists Hell Rides North take the Online Vote in a scaled down version that saw only 3 of the 5 bands submit their songs to be voted on. Not quite sure what's up with that, but why is a band in this contest if they don't even have any recorded music.....never ceases to amaze us! This week featured a wide variety of musical styles from the pop rock of Death or Glory, the Rap Metal of SBU, The straight up Metal from Hell Rides North, to the quirky bluegrass rap of The Disregarded. After winning the on-line vote by a small margin over SBU, Hell Rides North not only won the door vote, but swept the night with an outstanding performance that shone above the rest while delivering their trademark heavy beats with near perfection. Hell Rides North, who feature one of the wildest drummers in the city, and probably one of the best, won the night and a position in the semi-finals along with their chance at that $10,000 check!

Counter Culture would fit on any stage with The Muggs
Week 8 was the halfway point of the preliminary rounds in this 6 month journey to crown a winner of the $10,000. This week featured some downright heavy voting in the online phase of the week's competition with the winner Flashpoint bringing in nearly 900 votes with the runner up, Romeo's Revival receiving just over 600? With barely 900 friends on their MySpace page, Flashpoint certainly must be able to get them to vote, and although they did win the door vote on a marginally attended night, it's a shame they couldn't bring out more of these fans

Flashpoint follows God's word to lead the way
who were voting for them to the show. Playing a punked up Christian rock, Flashpoint calls upon "God" to make them a vessel and a light for others to follow, according to their website. I guess it's not working! The real surprise came with the first band up called Counter Culture. They didn't do very well with the online vote, nor the door vote, but Dr2 will definitely enjoy catching these guys again as they laid it all on the line with their downright catchy jam band bluesy stuff that would fit right in with The Muggs! Grand Circus and Social Tease rounded out the nights bands, but in the end it was the call of God that guided Flashpoint through the darkness of TNT's and into the semi-finals of 89X's $10,000 I'm With The Band V3.0! Stay tuned this week for another all out night of rock & roll where week 9 will feature the southern fried rock of Dismantle along with Moment of Inertia, Redleader, The Motherbirds, and Two Flights Up!
