Sold Out Crowd for ShipRocked aboard the Detroit Princess
In what may have been one of thee busiest Saturday nights Dr2 has seen in in the D for an awful long time, there was no question where the hottest party of the night was. With the Hoedown, Tigers, and Ty Stone in town to release his Atlantic / Top Dog Records debut "Four On The Floor", the streets of Detroit were buzzing with excitement, clogging virtually every street with people and cars, wish it would stay like this every weekend! Spending the better part of a half an hour looking for a parking spot (and believe us, we consider ourselves well versed on Detroit parking), we finally scored one of those highly coveted, free, as in no charge, parking spots at Randolph and Brush near one of our favorite "late night" watering holes The Well (a great spot for a very late night cocktail....). Dropped by the Eclipz Lounge for a couple pre-party brews before hopping on that god awful People Shaker to make our way down to the riverfront. Detroit's own Josh Gracin was on stage in Hart Plaza for the Hoedown, must of been a good one judging by the sounds and screams!

But the biggest surprise was saved for our arrival at the Detroit Princess, approaching the dock, we were met with a line 4 wide that stretched the length of a football field! Fortunately for us, we were able to do one of our quick shuttle steps up the ramp before anyone else realized that the gates had opened. Once inside we found our way to the wide open 3rd deck where the Ty Stone EP Release Party, Shiprocked, would be going down, what an enormous space, wide open, no tables, just one big ass room to accommodate the 800+ people that Detroit's ultimate party planners, On The Rocks, Detroit were expecting. During the 1 ½ hours it took to get the Princess loaded, Frankie D'Angelo hit the stage after a brief introduction by our own Dr2 Don! With the ship finally loaded, the Captain sounded one long blast signaling departure for our midnight rock & roll cruise on the Detroit River as Robin Horlock performed a multitude of songs off his recent release Music.. Ty Stone Rocking The Boat!
some people on one floor of a riverboat is quite the sight, but tonight's headlining act, Ty Stone, has grown accustomed to large crowds after hitting the road back in '06 to open for Kid Rock on his "Live Trucker" tour that panned out across the country for 40 dates, giving Stone all the confidence he needs to blow away a large crowd. And blow away he did. With his newly re-gathered band, The Truth, put together by Matt Van (Uncle Kracker, Mustard Plug) on Bass and consisting of Bill Reedy and Matt D'mits on guitar along with Uncle Kracker's drummer Steve Stetson, Ty Stone took to the stage, opening with Line of Blood which segued into Dr2's favorite Downriver, bringing a mass of loud drunken singing "sailors" along for a whirlwind of a ride! Ty's music has a way of resonating with his fans, and that feeling was abundant tonight as that hometown pride swept across the boat, leaving the room exhausted from the energy Ty poured into his set. Amazing. Finishing out the night was former Rockstar:INXS competitor Brandon Calhoon who brought out the full band for this special night, rocking the boat himself as the Detroit Princess made its final approach back to the docks.
