Hip Hoppin In The Box

If you weren’t at The Box this past Saturday night for the Hush Video Release Party for their upcoming single “Rise Again”, then you missed out on one of THE hottest shows so far in 2008! Amazing does not even come close to describing the complete mayhem that went down inside this recently renamed eastside hangout called The Box! Dropping into C-town, Hush packed them in and threw a party that was off the hook, even spotted Marco Polo & Esham in the house. Opening the night was JIVA, a gritty, R&B flavored, rock band that had all the right elements to get the party started as they lit the crowd up with awesome renditions of “Sexy Back” and the classics, “Let’s Go Crazy” & “Dirty Nicky” from Prince. Definitely worth checking out as they also banged out some cool tunes of their own. Hit em’ up on their MySpace page or on the Dr2 Links page. The Box has certainly been gaining in popularity lately as a lot of live music has been hitting the floor most Saturday Nights, and it looks like that may be expanded as the Wrif will be dropping in again soon. With the “Hottest” bar on the Eastside in full swing, it was time for the bartenders to show their stuff, shooting flaming balls of 151 from their mouths in a brilliant display of insanity! If you’re lucky enough to be near the bar, keep an ear open for the blasting sirens that will send The Box’s hot wait staff onto the bar armed with bottles full of free shots! Awesome, as you just open wide and they pour, never quite knowing what your poison is until it’s over! With The Box in a full carnival-like party mode, it was time for Hush to hit the stage. Amongst a flurry of hypnotic beats, Hush opened his set with The March from his Geffen Records release “Bullet Proof”, following up with Fired Up, a tune which was heard on every episode of NBC’s reality series “The Contender”. Hush Is Coming finished up the 1st half of the action as the band took a break and those damn sirens went off again, keeping the insanity flowing! Then, the video screens were dropped, the TV’s turned on, and Hush premiered their video for Rise Again, the highly anticipated single from their upcoming album. What an awesome video, set in and around Detroit and shot by Detroit’s own award winning director, Daniel Casey. Next, Hush returned to the stage, previewing a number of songs slated for the new album, and the thermometer began to rise, sending everyone’s hands in the air, whipping the crowd into one of those Chin-Tiki like frenzies seen in 8 Mile! Highlights of the night had to be; the kick-ass remake of the Who’s classic, Baba O’Riley, which was earth shattering, and the set-ending, Rise Again done live to the new Video! What an unbelievable night!! The Dr2 & Crew was left shaking their heads in disbelief, but we weren’t alone, as the entire crowd was left dazed and confused! Keep an eye out as Hush is poised to set the world on fire once again with the new album and hopefully some more live shows, check them out over on Dr2 MySpace Top Friends or find them in the Dr2 Links.
