The DR2 crew had a blast this past Sunday in the Clem, checking out the newly reborn Underdog’s, now known as “Mug Shots”. We were there to see The Inside Outlaws featuring Ty Stone and Don “Doop” Dupre, the ringleaders of this confederation of “singer-songwriters from Detroit that will always give you great songs and a great show”, as their site states. They were performing what they call “The Revolver”, which amounts to a bunch of incredibly talented folks having an acoustic jam session on stage, each taking a turn to sing a song or two. If you made the after party for the DMA’s at The Park Bar downtown, you were treated to a similar event. If you really like music for the whole package, the music, the lyrics, the passion, then this was the place to be Sunday! The place was packed with a veritable who’s who of the local music scene. A quick scan of the crowd showed Stirling in one corner chatting with Tino from The Howling Diablo’s, who would take his turn on stage later in the evening. Or you could look the other way and see Kathy V. hanging out with Steve Stetson (Lime Regal/The Bloids), Matt Dmits (Inside Outlaws),and Robin Horlock(who also took his turn on stage). In back there was JoCaine clowning with everyone and having a great time hanging out (no doubt looking forward to his turn to tear it up at the Downtown Hoedown on the 10th and again back out in the Clem at The Emerald on the 15th of this month). We could keep going on and on but lets just say it was a great crowd and they were in for a show! Ty stone and Doop got things started and just lit the place up! It is hard to describe their talent and give it the due it deserves. Ty stone is best described as a songwriter of great passion, a voice of pure emotion, and a 
charisma that is pure energy! He sings with such ease and yet such emotion that you can’t help smiling. We have often discussed what makes him special and the consensus is that, forgetting all about his talent for the moment, he just flat-out loves being on stage more than anywhere else, and it shows every time he gets his chance to be there, no matter what size crowd or venue, he gives it everything he’s got! He treated the crowd to some of it’s favorites including “Downriver”, “Future” and our personal favorite “Blessed St. Anthony”. Don “Doop” Duprie plays the perfect counterpoint to Ty. He is pure lyric, and when he sings, he tells a story. We at DR2 have been huge Doop fans from the first note we heard from his debut album “Blood River”, a collection of gems released last year as Doop & The Inside Outlaws. Doop has an easygoing manner and smooth vocal style that complements his songs perfectly. He would probably tell you he is a songwriter, but he is every bit the performer also. His shows never disappoint, and Sunday was no different! He treated us to “Shoot you Down”, “Hate Me Too”, and “Let You Bleed”.
Doop has an uncanny ability to draw you into his songs, his performance is much more restrained than Ty Stone’s, but he brings every bit the emotion and, before you know it, you are singing along to the chorus. Talking to Doop, he shared with us that there is a new disc in the works, and we can’t wait! At the risk of having to fight for a seat next week, we are going to share the best news of all! If you missed this past Sunday, they are doing it all again this week on Mother’s Day, the 11th. Same place, same time, Mug Shots, from 9-12 Sunday night. So get out and catch a show! If not this one, then any local show and tell the proprietor that you are there for the music. The club owners need to know that local music can bring people in. If we don’t support the scene, we’ll be left to rot in Dance Club Hell….nobody wants that.
