Dr2 View
When it comes to raising the roof with hard hitting, eye popping, hip hop braised rock & roll, nobody does it better than Detroit’s own urban rap rockers Critical Bill, Set to drop their 3rd album on Westbound Records September 16th. As always, the guys in CB were gracious enough to get an advanced copy of The New Eternal, their latest collection of 16 mosh pit enticing tracks in our hands.
We really weren’t sure what to expect with The New Eternal, it’s been 4 years since the release of Underground Kingdom, and well, there have been a number of changes along the way. Time can sometimes get in the way of the creative process, slow things down, change them around, and before you know it, a bands persona can take on a whole new sound, leaving fans scratching their heads and wondering, Who Where the Fuck is Critical Bill?
We can assure you that they are alive and well, rolling down the streets of the D to the Clem, pimping on all the ladies with High Heels & Horns, while challenging every one along the way that they Bet You’re Buying, but never once have they said I’ve Had Enough! In fact, Critical Bill is back, bigger, although smaller, yet arguably better than before with this new release.
The New Eternal kicks off with, The Cure, which in our opinion just may end up being the bands biggest hit to date in their decade long career. An epic hard rock song laced with hip hop overtures that showcases an even more epic hook that just crushes your ears and may just keep you pushing that repeat button on the first spin. Don’t cave in to temptation or you may miss one of the most ear tingling guitar riffs of Who the Fuck is Critical Bill, an ingenious autobiographical tale of their life in the music biz.
With what has to be one of the strongest opening runs of any disc that has made its way across our desk, Critical Bill literally kicks the bejesus out of our subs with the relationship gone bad anthem, I’ve Had Enough, bringing with it their own distinct critical crunching guitar hooks that will have you screaming fuck you along with them, you just can’t help it!
From here on out it would be best to hold onto the seat of your pants as the band glides through a bevy of hit laden tunes that draws upon each member’s musical tastes from Classic Hit (a nod to classic rock), the soulful minded Color Me Crazy, and in a twist of fate, the guys have finally secured the rights to Ludacris’s Move, which has been the mosh pit staple of their eclectic live shows for some time now.
Unlike Gene Simmons, we here at Dr2 do not believe Rock & Roll is dead, rather it’s just changed the color of its hair and the clothes it wears, if you need proof to that testament, look no further than The New Eternal from Critical Bill, available September 16th everywhere!
