The Motor City Music Foundation/Detroit Music Awards proudly presents its annual benefit showcasing some of Detroits most talented Jazz artists.  This year, the event will be held at 7 p.m. July 3rd at Cliff Bells, 2030 Park Ave. at Elizabeth St., in downtown Detroit. The evening will include performances by: Sheila Landis,The Jeffrey Newton Group, & Brazil & Beyond. 

Sheila Landis has been performing her unique style of Jazz, Latin and Blues since 1973. Her current schedule has her performing at Michigan's most prestigious festivals, concert venues and nightclubs. Clearly one of the area's finest vocalists, Sheila has been chosen as the "Outstanding Jazz Vocalist by The Detroit Music Awards on seven occasions including 2001, 2002 and 2003. Her catalog of recorded work on her own SheLan Records has received extensive airplay in local, national and international markets.  Check her out at http://www.sheilalandis.com. 

Brazil and Beyond specializes in jazz-influenced Brazilian music, this group delves especially into the musical styles of northeastern Brazil. The performances present a pleasant mix of Brazilian classics by such big names as Heitor Villa-Lobos, Edu Lobo and Joao Bosco.  Visit their website http://www.brazilandbeyond.com.  

Jeffrey Newton is a professional Jazz saxophonist from the suburban Detroit area and an alumnus of the fabled Oakland University Jazz Studies program of the 1970's.  At the time, the program was considered to be the finest in the country and produced numerous great Jazz musicians. Jeffrey has performed with some of the greats of Jazz including, Dizzy Gillespie, Branford Marsalis and Dave Brubeck. 

Cliff Bells is located at 2030 Park Avenue in Detroits historic entertainmentdistrict.  As one of the premier Jazz venues in the city, the fully restored art-deco nightclub will provide a spectacular backdrop for this fine evening.  Learn more about this gem of Detroit music history from their website http://www.cliffbells.com. 

The Motor City Music Foundation is a Michigan 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation, whose mission is to recognize Detroit area musicians working on a national, regional and local level. Its purpose is also to support and nurture the musical community in the Detroit metropolitan area, and to create a network for musicians that cut across genres and styles.  Benefits such as this help us to honor outstanding achievements and support worthy musical causes throughout SE Michigan.
